Montgomery County Man to Be Tried on Safe Burglary Charge

Ralph Medford Caldwell 25 of Crawfordsville will be arraigned in Carroll circuit court on burglary of a safe at Max Frazee Ford Sales in Flora. Held as a parole violator, Caldwell was returned to face the charge after arrest in Crawfordsville with two accomplices already sentenced to five to ten years. a juvenile companion remains held.

Logansport Boys Caught After Two Deer Creek Break-ins

Two 16 year old Logansport youths confessed to breaking into homes near Deer Creek. A forgotten sheet of music led Mrs. Beulah Dietz to spot one youth fleeing her house. a deputy chased the other in a cornfield. They admitted the Dietz burglary and a Sunday break in at Donald Nelson's home, taking $59.50. They are held for juvenile court.

Young Democrats of Carroll County Plan Meeting

The Young Democrats of Carroll County will hold an organizational meeting Saturday night Oct 5 at 8 pm in Delphi in the old Carroll Radio and TV Service room at 103 West Franklin North Side of the Square. Acting President Dick Wray and Vice President Joan Allen call the gathering, with Don Galbreth head of the Second District Young Democrats attending.

Delphi Band Candy Sale Drives Fund for Music

For the second year Delphi Music Parents sponsor a candy sale as their project. The drive runs from Friday October 11 through Tuesday October 22 at the Homecoming game and beyond. Mrs Stevens boxed candy with a band or chorus image sells for 1.00 per box to raise funds for music and band instruments.

Attucks Downs Oracles 25 to 7 in Close Gridiron Win

The Indianapolis Attucks Tigers defeated the Delphi Oracles 25 to 7 on Friday night. Attucks led 18 to 7 after a 70 yard run by Henry Marks and added a fourth touchdown after Delphi turnovers. The Oracles outgained 378 to 217, with most yardage accruing late in the game.

Fugitives Wound Brother Of Local Man In Gun Battle

A Delphi man's brother, Lester Kenens of North Vernon, was shot and improving after a gunfight with two fugitives near North Vernon. They mortally wounded Ralph Walker Taylor of Kenova before being shot by his fleeing partner Victor Wayne Whitely. Trooper William R. Kellems, friend of Delphi trooper Dale Douglass, was fatally shot in Scottsburg. The case sparked one of Indiana's largest manhunts, following prior killings in Michigan and an Indiana trooper wound.

Oracle staff organizes for Delphi yearbook 1957 58

The Oracle staff held its organizational meeting to start committees and prepare a quality Delphi annual for students. Sponsored by Jack H. Sanders, editors in chief Lois Groninger and Sarah Johnson lead a 52 member staff including Virginia Fisher as advertising manager, Kay Clawson as art and copy editor, Kay Cain as sales manager, Dave Packard as sports editor, and Bob Delaney as photography editor.

Three Named to Fill Vacancies on Draft Board

Three new members were named to the Carroll County Draft Board this week by the State Selective Service Director. They are William Freeman Globe Valve manager Edward R Grimm farmer and Duane Lamb local contractor. The five-man board also includes Tom Peters and Roger Rohra baugh. The announcement came from Lt Col Walter Miller. The group will organize by naming a chairman and secretary next Monday night. Back log of three months prompts heavy duties for the new board. The vacancies arose after Delmar Gilmore Raymond Todd and George Schnepp quit in a dispute with the Selective Service system.

Kerlin Break-In Reported Solved

Two juveniles were arrested by City Police on Wednesday for breaking into the Kerlin Hatchery and Feed Mill Tuesday night. They confessed to taking 38.05 dollars from a cash drawer and to dividing loot later at the old Monon trestle in West Delphi. They are held for juvenile authorities.

Adult education classes offered with setup deadline

Adults may call Delphi 100 to indicate subjects for the school year. A minimum of 15 learners is needed to form a class. The fee is $10 for 18 class meetings. October 14 is the deadline to set up any class.

Legal moves in school combine announced in Carroll area

Petition efforts seek to form Carroll Consolidated School Corporation across Carrollton Monroe Washington Burlington and Democrat townships. Trustees sign off, but a majority of residents in a township can force a special election. Democrat voters may push for a district vote to settle consolidation. School Bus Drivers To Hold Meeting Tonight
