Oliver Roth, 73, a longtime well digger from Owasco, was buried alive for nearly twelve hours after a cave-in while repairing a well near Delphi. Rescue efforts by Sheriff Riley Sink, Night Marshal Doxie Moore, Arthur Rider, and local volunteers, aided by the National Guard, finally freed him. Coffee and food were provided to rescuers by local women as the operation continued through the long night.
