In a pre election mock ballot 1097 students mostly graded 626 percent backed Eisenhower while 647 percent of parents chose Ike. Closest races favored Baum with 517 percent versus 504 percent by parents and Ferrier drew 529 percent from students and 521 percent from parents.
Delphi resident Harold Anderson has been promoted to Assistant to the Division Comptroller of the Buick Oldsmobile and Pontiac Assembly Division of General Motors. The Assembly Division operates in seven plants and serves as a key unit within GM.
Dr. Roy Sturm of New York City and Dr. Robert Selle of Lafayette will assist Rev. Frank R. Briggs in re dedication services at the local Methodist church Sunday at 10 AM. Dr. Sturm to give the address and Dr. Selle to lead the rededication.
Carroll county GOP vice chairman Mrs Fern Cohee is chosen as the Second District presidential elector. Indiana electors meet December 15 at the State House in Indianapolis to cast votes for Eisenhower. Electors receive $10 plus mileage at 20 cents per mile.
Music teacher Mrs Naomi Theophile led the Armistice Day program at Owasco School for pupils. The event opened with the pledge and National Anthem, featuring readings by Roy Oaks and Bonnie Miller, solos by Sara Frantz Robert James and others, plus two minutes of silence at 11 am and taps played by Mrs Theophile.
Mrs. Mary C. Hanna of Adams township travels to Texas following the death of her son-in-law Hugh Vittatoe husband of Helen Coble Vittatoe. Vittatoe is survived by two young children and a widow.
Invitations issued by Mr and Mrs Arlie Hughes set the wedding for Sunday November 30 at 2 o clock in the Delphi Methodist church. A reception will follow at the bride’s parents home with Mr and Mrs Chris Brummett of route 4 noted as the groom’s parents.
Lewis N. Mullin, former prosecuting attorney candidate, announces he resumes law practice in Delphi. His office occupies suites once used by Hanna and Hanna above the Central States Gas Co. Mullin, Carroll county native, earned AB from Indiana University, was Phi Beta Kappa, and edited the Indiana Law Journal. He served in WW II before returning to Carroll County.
The Delphi Girl Scout Council denied a request by Cub Scout leaders to share the Girl Scout rooms. Upcoming events discussed include a luncheon with Carroll County commissioners as guests, a leader party, and a Christmas party for Girl and Brownie Scouts. Plans for cookie and peanut sales to boost the camping fund were noted, with dates not yet set. Mrs Merle Mullerstore presided and Mrs Homer Myers is a council member.
The Tippecanoe County All Stars face the Negro College All Stars on Sunday November 16 at 2 p m in Dayton high school gym. Players include Bob Cassell Delphi and Jack Kiger Brookston with others from Jackson township Battle Ground Monitor and Montmorenci.
Judge William B. Smith in Carroll circuit court granted an annulment for Marie Kennington and Ralph Kennington restoring Marie Henderson as her maiden name. Hanna and Hanna represented the plaintiff.
Four accidents kept Sheriff Sparkey Carey and Deputy Lee Stone busy from morning to night. A 1951 Ford tractor and trailer driven by George Washburn left the road at State Roads 25 and 421, $3 000 damage. A jeep wrecked near Pittsburg. owner Quick's garage Lafayette. Anita Youngberg lost control of a 1947 Chevrolet, fence and pole damage. Gerald Beamer, 16, suffered injuries in a 1938 Chevrolet crash on the east “S” curves, car demolished. Beamer fined for registration. Earl Kite jailed later for driving without a license. sentence suspended by Mayor Wood.
Engagement notice for Phyllis Ayres daughter of Mr and Mrs Loren Ayres of Bloomington to Donald Hugh Courter of Bloomington. Wedding planned for Sunday November 23 at 3 pm at First Christian Church Bloomington with reception in The Student Union Building on Indiana University campus. Couple to reside in Bloomington after wedding trip. Grandparents Mr and Mrs Morris Ayres of Delphi will attend.
County Recorder Anna L. Johnson of Carroll County married Leo M. Douglas of Lafayette in a small home ceremony with relatives present. The bride wore a navy street length dress and mum corsage, and after a short wedding trip they will reside in Lafayette. Mrs. Johnson was re elected to a second term.
Indiana officials issued a warrant Wednesday for Marjorie M Disinger on forgery charges. She was released on her own recognizance and will face arraignment next Tuesday for allegedly writing a fraudulent check at Bucrow Hardware in Flora.
Rossville brings its Junior High and Freshman Hornets to town to face the local junior high and freshman squads. Both games are set for the armory tonight.
County Treasurer Charles L. Bell reported tax payments of $483,499.25 for the last half of 1952. The period ended on an unspecified Monday with $32,731.12 collected that day. The peak single-day take was $38,730.46 as Bell closes his book and prepares to hand the office to Robert Ferrier, elected for a two year term.
Landis and Crowder will co-captain the 1953 Oracles as seniors next year after Tuesday night’s school event. Joe Weaver earned the team’s most valuable player honor, tallying 703 yards, 10 touchdowns, and handling the ball 99 times. Coach Tony Berto announced letter winners and the program featured a mothers’ supper with each player presenting his mother with a rose.
Mayor Charles A Wood of Delphi will head the annual sale of Christmas Seals, a Carroll County Tuberculosis and Health Association fundraiser. The sale begins November 17 with township chairmen and local organizations aiding, supporting projects including an x ray survey completed last month.
At the Tippecanoe Township PTA meeting plans were made for an auction of miscellaneous articles to be held November 24. Donations are being solicited. On the plaintiff’s motion the divorce action of Joan versus Gordon L Black has been dismissed in Carroll circuit court. Mrs Black was represented by David La Baum.
Joe Shaffer of route 1 Cutler reports to Sheriff Sparkey Carey the theft of 80 bales of clover hay and 20 bales of straw from Brum Field Farm on Prince William Road northeast of Rossville. The 100 bales were discovered missing on Monday.
Delphi Future Farmers of America chapter earns the Gold Emblem in the National Chapter Contest at the National Convention in Kansas City Missouri marking the fifth straight year of recognition. Advisor W S Weaver notified by national officers. medal to be sent to the Delphi chapter.
Pictured with colleagues Max Daugherty A and P manager receives cake and bonus as the Delphi store salutes his 25 years of service. The celebration, led by Vice President Melvin Aldridge, followed a prior Indianapolis luncheon. Daugherty began as a clerk in Robinson Illinois in 1927 and has only one sick day in his tenure.
Delphi merchants launch a week long window shopping event starting November 28 with 50 plus participants. Each store gives a drawing ticket to customers, prizes announced December 5, and extra draws if unclaimed. The plan ends with the REMC auditorium opening night and the grain show.
Miss Marie Frisbee of west of Delphi and Reuben E. Myer of Flora exchanged vows on Saturday November 8 in Frankfort with Rev. Harry L. Crain officiating. The bride, a retired teacher and community president, and the groom, employed by Pioneer Seed Corn Co., will live in Flora. The Citizen joins friends in offering congratulations.
Letters of administration in the Mary Snoddy estate were issued to Union Bank & Trust. The estate value lists $2500 in personal property. Hanna and Hanna are named as administrators.
The Delphi Oracle football team and coaches were recognized at a Tuesday luncheon hosted by the Delphi Rotary Club at the Country Club. Over 90 Rotarians and team members attended. Joe Dienhart of Purdue served as guest speaker, with Wayne Eikenberry leading the program.
Coach Norm Ebrite announces the 1952 53 Delphi Oracles lineup for the Brookston game next Wednesday at the local gym with a 6 45 prelim and 8 00 main tilt. Abbott Wingard Smith Crosby Weaver Harshman Crowder among probable starters. Harshman brothers were Rossville letterwinners. Other 12 man squad members include Richardson Hildebrand Hawn and Bobby Lee Smith. Also listed are upcoming games on Nov 14 and Nov 19 across several towns.
A county wide Rural Youth variety show raises funds for the Rural Youth Chorus. It runs November 20 and 22 at 7 30 pm in Flora Community Building and ae school auditorium. Chorus travels to Seattle in December to represent Indiana in the national Rural Youth Amateur contest. Teckla Roskuski 79 a lifelong Delphi resident died Wednesday at 1 15 AM in St Elizabeth hospital after ten days confinement following surgery. Born March 4 1873 she was daughter of Charles and Josephine Roskuski. Survived by sister Mary Brady Muncie brother John Roskuski Fort Wayne and several nieces and nephews. Rosary services at Eikenberry funeral home tonight. Funeral Friday at 9 AM from St Joseph church with Rev Francis Kienly officiating burial in St Joseph cemetery.
The Junior Auxiliary of the American Legion met at the Legion Home on Saturday and elected Barbara Martin president Beverly Richardson secretary Kathy Kerlin treasurer. The group, with 13 members, collected comic books for the Knightstown home and voted to meet the first Saturday afternoon of each month. Becky Lamb is publicity chairman and Ruth Johns Richardson heads Junior Activities.
Bobby Emmitt, nine, son of Mr and Mrs Walker E Emmitt of Rockfield, broke his right leg Tuesday evening while playing at home. He stepped into a hole and twisted his ankle, then fell. He was taken to St Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette.
