Carroll County Votes Republican Light in Majority Sweep

In Carroll County Indiana the New Deal opposition carried Landis over Durgan with a large margin while Republicans won key offices. Judges, prosecutors and several county posts fell to GOP candidates as Democrats split ballots. A heavy turnout near 9 000 marked an eventful off year vote with mixed results.

Democrats won seven of thirteen trustees including Jean Beck in Burlington Irvin Humes in Democrat Carl Raber in Jackson Charles Crook in Jefferson Earl Stewart in Rock Creek Frank Swaim in Tippecanoe and Lewis McFatridge in Washington Republicans elected Charles Tansey Adams Burt McCain Carrollton Ed Sommers Clay Harry Baum Deer Creek Russell Clawson Madison William Wingard Monroe Seven Democratic pluralities were noted in Burlington Rock Creek Jefferson and Tippecanoe townships Jean Beck had the largest plurality 110 and Earl Stewart was re elected by 85 votes in Rock Creek Frank Swaim led in Tippecanoe by 84 votes Washington saw McFatridge win by 14 and Adams Tansey by 13 votes Mrs Afflis Deer Creek township trustee was defeated by Baum 186 to 173. Funeral Rites Set For Mrs John Young 46 Friday

Funeral rites for Mrs. John Young 46 who died at Hammond Wednesday will be conducted from the Immond mortuary Friday afternoon. She formerly lived in Delhi and was a daughter of Mrs Lilliz Bragunier. She is survived by her child, the mother and a daughter. Rev Howard Jenkins will officiate.

Gasoline Stove Explosion Endangers Democratic Headquarters

Aji gasoline stove exploded at Democratic headquarters on a Tuesday morning while workers prepared food. Firefighters contained flames after Orvel Schock and John T Johnson moved the stove to the alley. Johnson suffered slight burns. investigators warned of potential serious injuries if the blast had occurred earlier.

The Indoor Circus announced a new program and will perform at the Delphi Armory on Saturday November 17 after a prior full house run. A Lafayette show is set for Friday November 16 sponsored by Jefferson High School with student ticket sales required for admission.

Republicans Elect Mayor Clerk and Three Councilmen

A city election results in a Republican mayor and city clerk with three Republicans winning seats on the council. Dr. C. W. Hunter defeated George Beale for mayor while Roy Arnold edged George Wason by 22 votes. Council members include Harry Roach Fred Griffith Robert Gamble Harve H. Shaw and Frank Feese. In county results nine votes went to William Earl Ross, socialist candidate for Congress from the second district.

$100,000 Relief Projects Planned for Deer Creek Township

The federal government approves four relief projects in Deer Creek township totaling 98,900 to begin soon under the Public Works Administration. The plans include a Delphi road pavement 11,400, a South Del viaduct 6,000, Washington street paving 34,000, and a Deer Creek bridge 35,000. Democrats Score Historic Victory Nationwide in Elections

The Democratic party achieved a sweeping win with strong majorities across the nation. Sherman Minton campaigned to unseat Senator Arthur Robinson while David Reed and Simeon Fess faced defeats in Pennsylvania and Ohio respectively. Indiana favored Democrats with gains in the Senate and House, though Republican gains were seen in the second district where George R. Durgan lost to Frederick Landis.

Lydia Adams 88 Dies in Michigan on Tuesday

Lydia Adams 88 former Carroll county resident died Tuesday at Grand Rapids Michigan. Survived by son Will Funkhouser Rockfield another son in New York and daughter Mrs Henry Moore Grand Rapids. Body brought to Grime funeral home for 2 PM rites conducted by Rev H Hugo. Interment at Rockfield.

Fleeing yeggs abandon loaded safe at Flora ice cream shop

Two men attempted to blow the Northcutt Ice Cream Company safe in Flora but fled Tuesday morning after loading nitroglycerin. They escaped in a stolen car fired upon by a Colburn resident as authorities traced car tracks for miles. Entry was via a window and the fuse burned briefly before going out. State Patrolmen Young Rule and Detective Weinhardt investigated from Lafayette.

County Agent and Mrs Ralph Maggart and their son moved into a new country home on the Dr C M and Eva Kennedy farm Saturday. Doctors Kennedy and Mr and Mrs Robert VanNatta were dinner guests of the Maggarts Monday evening.

Oracles Open Season With Win Over Cutler

Delphi Oracles defeated Cutler 31 17 in their season opener. Jack Gee led with 11 points while Lewis Kirkpatrick added 12, as the team used size for many tip ins and held a 16 8 halftime lead before the final buzzer. They next host Tipton Blue Devils in a local showdown.
