Muttnik joke sparks early alarm at Sunshine Dairy

In Delphi a Sun shine Dairy employee Byram Crosby heard a dog howl at 4 a.m. and looked up to see a dog on Muttnik bark from the sky. The item recalls safety concerns and features the quip about sunshine milk from the dog. The column then shifts to memorial notes about Emma Hillhouse and local anecdotes including a purse recovered by Purdue students and Halloween vandalism nearby.

Mr and Mrs Charles Williams of Delphi rural route 4 plan a golden wedding anniversary open house on Sunday November 10 from 2 to 5 pm They reside at the Lee Shaeffer farm south of Delphi The couple were married November 12 1907 in Delphi Their daughter Mrs Ralph Hill of Delphi and two grandchildren Robert Hill and Frank Hildebrandt plus two great grandchildren Sandra and Marsha Hill will join in the celebration.

Legion To Mark Veterans Day With Two Events

Harry Bohannon Post 75 American Legion plans two Veterans Day activities. On Sunday November 10 members attend 10 a.m. services at Delphi Methodist Church with Rev Loran Campbell delivering a sermon. Members meet 9:30 a.m. at the Legion home and proceed to the church. On Monday the Armistice anniversary the legion hosts a 4 p.m. smorgasbord at the Legion home followed by a 9 to 12 p.m. dance featuring Marge Carr and her trio from Logansport.

Mrs Coffey Chosen To Lead Red Cross First Aid Group

Carroll County Red Cross appoints Mrs William D Coffey of Delphi as county first aid chairman. The committee includes Roy Clauser as city rep, Mabel Wharton RN, Marie Burns Flora area, Richard Eikenberry, Joseph Peterson, Marie Hanrahan, Dr T Neal Perry as advisor. Hazel Miller of National Red Cross assists organizing. Instructors planned by January 1 with countywide availability by April 1.

Mann Returned to Carroll County Jail for Forged Check Charge

Donald L. Mann, 24, of Rensselaer, was returned to Carroll County jail from Indianapolis Tuesday by Deputy Sheriff Miller. Mann is wanted in Carroll County for passing an insufficient funds check at the A and S Standard Service station in South Delphi in September. He was apprehended at Stout Field in Indianapolis.

Settle Suit Over Damaged House Between Lucas and Treichels

The Lucas couple Theodore and Mary sued Meredith and Walter Treichel for damages. The case settled out of court on November 1 with no damages awarded. Courtesy Builders were ordered to complete delivery of the unfinished house to the Treichels, who then conveyed it to the Lucases.

Mayor Clauser Heads 51st Christmas Seal Sale Campaign

Delph i Mayor Roy C. Clauser will again serve as general chairman of the 51st annual Christmas Seal Sale Campaign opening November 15 and running through December. Seals at $1 per sheet fund TB education, x rays, and testing with most money staying in Carroll County for local sufferers and prevention efforts. Local volunteers drive the drive with chairmen listed across townships including Adams, Burlington, Clay, Deer Creek, Delphi, Jefferson, Liberty, Monroe, Rock Creek, Tippecanoe, and Washington townships.

Real Whodunit in Carroll County Office The Missing Check Protector

Carroll County officers faced a real whodunit Saturday when the check protector vanished from Hoy Musselman’s locked office after hours. The room also contained a calculator and adding machines. a new check protector costing 175 dollars was bought Tuesday. Banks were alerted to watch for forged Carroll County checks.

Rites Today For Mrs Hillhouse Delphi Restaurant Owner

Mrs Emma A Hillhouse 65 died of a heart attack Monday night at the Welcome Inn Cafe in Delphi where she and husband Harry operated. Born October 8 1892 in Lafayette she earlier worked for the Monon railroad and with her husband ran restaurants in Lafayette Thorntown Delphi and managed Country Clubs at Frankfort and Delphi. Voters in Democrat township approve joining with the Carroll County School Consolidation plan affecting Washington Carrollton Burlington Monroe and Democrat townships. Airman First Class Rex Bell son of Mr and Mrs Delbert Bell of Radnor has been chosen to fly as Crew Chief on the Bomber for the Ellsworth Air Force Base South Dakota Wing at a Strategic Air Command Bombing competition in Fort Worth Texas The exercise pits SAC against the Royal Air Force in a mock bombing of Atlanta Kansas City and St Louis to test effectiveness.

At Reese Air Base a B-25 with hydraulic failure landed safely after Lt. James E. Ferrier of Delphi Indiana and pilot Aviation Cadet Lawrence Dorcey used use hand equipment to lower gear and pump flaps in under a minute. Maj. Susko praised the students calmness. Carroll Farmers Sue for 1.614 Million Over Creek Pollution

About 140 plaintiffs from Carroll County sue in Howard circuit court Kokomo seeking 1.614 million in damages for continued Wildcat Creek pollution affecting 3,000 acres of bottom land. They allege harm to crops and fish stock and name Continental Steel, General Motors units, Union Carbide, Chrysler, Miller Packing, and the City of Kokomo as defendants. Ira C. Landis Former County Teacher Dies in California

Ira C. Landis aged 74 died in Riverside California. He taught at Cutler Delphi and Burrows before leaving the county in 1910 and spent 48 years in Riverside school work. A Tra C Landis Auditorium honors his memory. Surviving are his wife Beth two children and three Camden sisters.
