Dr J M Haggard of Delphi was guest speaker. The group discussed possibly purchasing a steam cleaner.
Leroy A. Smith came home Monday after receiving discharge from the U S Navy in San Diego California on May 22. He served four years aboard the P C S 1445 and had been stationed for several months at Yorktown Virginia.
Six eighth grade students will graduate Sunday from St Joseph Parochial School. The ceremony starts at 3 p m in the church. Graduates are Hubert Schmitter Michael Johnson Lois Young Eleanor Vianco Doronita Vianco and Linda Coomey. After the ceremony the Sisters of St Joseph will depart for the mother house at Tipton.
Mrs Pauline Moore announced that Miss Shirley Bowman will attend the Indiana Girls State event at Bloomington next month. Miss Charlene Melson is named as alternate delegate.
Local physician Dr J M Byrne was admitted to St Elizabeth hospital on Tuesday for an appendectomy and remains in care following the surgery.
J. C. Yunker, county superintendent of schools, announced multiple resignations across the county system. Rockfield principal Cash Kreigh and Cutler principal Joseph Rodkey led resignations, along with teachers Martha Schooler Lavonne Million Pittsburg grade school, Mary Ellen Campbell Mark Flora Joseph Anderson Flora high school, Mary Rose Perrone Edgar Mounts Burlington high school, and Mrs Marie Stover Yeoman grade school.
Two grandchildren Mary Kathleen Conwell and Jesse M Ransopher filed in Carroll circuit court to contest the will of Abraham Lincoln Crecraft. Estate valued at 270183.07 in personal property and 165200 in real estate. Will dated April 24 1933 leaves funds to Burling ton Cemetery Association and a trust for daughters Ola Scott and Lida Lucille Tenbrook with grandchildren as remainees. Trustees named Ethael Scott and Albert B Cohee with restrictions excluding Walter Tenbrook and the grandparents of the plaintiffs.
M. H. Jack Bloyd 45 prominent Delphi resident and Kroger manager died last Thursday night at his family home after over a year of ill health. Born in Cumberland Kentucky he came to Delphi in 1917 and worked for Kroger over 20 years. He wed Sarah White of West Lafayette in 1936 and held roles in the Christian church IOOF Masonic Orders and the Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his widow his mother and several siblings. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Delphi Christian church with burial in the IOOF cemetery Jackson funeral home in charge.
Morris Clem owner of the Clem Insurance Agency is named president of the Delphi Lions Club and will take the post in July after serving as secretary. Other officers include Homer Myers first vice president Harold Patton second vice president Fred Morrison third vice president Frank Wilcox secretary John Toole treasurer and Jim McClean George Arnold named to the board of directors alongside John Roth Clement Duckwall as holdover directors.
Mr and Mrs Forest Sprague Mr and Mrs Melvin Jackson Miss Linda Rule and Mrs Raymond Baer attended a dinner dance at the Claypool hotel in Indianapolis Friday night. The event followed graduation exercises at the Indiana School of Mortuary Science where Harold Sprague and Raymond Baer graduated. The two will continue their schooling until August.
The Delphi Jaycees announce a local Miss Delphi contest June 27 at the Delphi Armory to select a representative for the state finals of the Miss America Pageant in Lafayette. Entries open to unmarried women 18 to 27 who are high school graduates, with committee chair Jim Partington urging locals to nominate a candidate.
Volunteers from Psi Iota Xi Junior Chamber of Commerce Business and Professional Women Boy Scouts Legion Auxiliary Lions and others will canvas Delphi June 3 to 6 to raise 750 for insecticide materials and 175 for city fogging. Andrea Clements will oversee funds. fogging begins with DDT oil emulsion and wettable powder in breeding areas and parks as funds permit.
The Selective Service outlines deferment procedures for college students and those with dependency deferments. Students must file written deferment requests with local boards and submit SSS Form 109 from their institution. Fathers claiming Class 3-A status must provide official proof of birth. registrants failing to provide information may be reclassified within a reasonable period after the expected birth date.
William McVay of Camden was elected treasurer of Alpha Zeta agriculture honorary at Purdue University. The junior in agricultural education meets Alpha Zeta’s requirement of being in the upper two fifths of the class to be eligible for membership.
Nellie Russell of Yeoman files for divorce from James A. Russell in Cairo circuit court alleging cruel and inhuman treatment. Attorneys Hanna and Hanna represent the plaintiff.
Members of Rockfield Presbyterian Church plan a Sunday meeting on June 1 at 1 30 p m to discuss hiring a new minister and related church business.
The 80th annual commencement at Delphi High School in the Armory celebrated 59 graduates with diplomas in booklet form, a 65 piece band, and speeches by Sharon Hanna Robert Johnson and Kenneth Clausen. Principal John Curry led the ceremony as Olaf Brown handed diplomas to each graduate amid family pride and school history.
The Carroll County board processed 43 files with 20 in 1-A, 1 in 1-C discharged, 3 in 1-C enlisted, 2 in 1-D, 2 in 1-S H, 2 in 3-A, 1 in 4-A, 3 in 4-F and 8 in 5-A. At a Terrace Gardens dinner-session near Monticello Carroll County Board of Education reappointed Mrs. Florence Bowman of Burlington as county attendance officer for another year and granted a salary increase. The board also named Orton Peters of Washington township to serve on the Carroll County Tax Adjustment Board.
Special Judge W Douglas Elwood of Fowler scheduled June 16 for the civil action Glen R Weékerly et al versus Florence Harris.
A Delphi schoolteacher and an eighth grade pupil, Gary Weaver, were injured in separate crashes on Wednesday. Weaver, struck by Norman Ebriie near Front and Washington, suffered a possible skull fracture but remained conscious and in Lafayette hospitals. Mrs. Pearl Korb, Monroe street teacher, rolled her car near Highway 25, sustaining cuts and back strain. she and her uninjured son were taken for treatment.
John C. Moore 74 of near Bringhurst died Tuesday night after a two year illness. He was born October 3 1877 in the county and was the father of Robert B Moore former Carroll county sheriff. Survived by wife Lydia Sink and daughter Ruth Stonebraker plus sons Robert Ralph and three siblings. Funeral Saturday 2 p m from Lester funeral home Flora with burial in Maple Lawn.
Volunteers aiding the Red Cross Blood Bank schedule a briefing Monday June 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the REMC. Eligible donors may call the Carroll County Red Cross Office in the courthouse afternoons June 2 through June 7. Blood is free at participating hospitals Lafayette Logansport Kokomo.
The Woman's Association of Delphi Presbyterian announces a reception for Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Dalquist on Thursday evening June 5 at 8 p m in the church parlors. Dalquist is serving as interim minister while Rev James William Rankin is on extended Navy duty. Congregation and public invited.
