Earl Johnson longtime rural mail carrier served with the Legion decorating soldiers graves at Delphi and Wingard cemeteries. Now his widow Isabelle Johnson will carry on the tradition at both cemeteries representing the Legion.
The Carroll County Red Cross plans a meeting on Monday May 28 at 2 p m in the court house rooms of the Chapter.
St Josephs Parish plans to graduate Carol Anni Schmitter Dorothy Soper and Joan Ferrier at an 8 a m mass on Friday May 27. The school recently held first communion for 17 children including Joseph Ackerman Thomas Brown William Brown Tim DeBruicker Dick Haley Donald Lehe Richard Lehe Francis Pearson Roger Ward Ronald Young Michele Berto and Juanita Clawson.
Harry Reed, longtime member and leader of Delphi Masonic bodies, was initiated into Rose Chapter OES. O E S Smith presided, Reed gave a talk praising officers. Memorial services for Ida Frushour Parrevida Wilson and Stella Holloway were held. District Deputy to visit in June. A reception followed with star-point tables, iris and columbine centerpieces, and a social hour with readings about Granddad.
Delphi High School announced new student officers for next year as elected by seniors juniors and sophomores. Senior officers include Ronnie Logan as president Arrell as vice president Carolyn Hisher secretary Joe Messick treasurer and Joe Clawson student council representative. Junior officers list Pete Furst president Sara Jane Johnson vice Virginia Fisher secretary Suzanne Spitler treasurer Karen Smith student council. Sophomores elected Bob Delaney president Bob Randolph vice Janet Bailey treasurer Susan Johnson secretary Judy Justice student council.
The last will of Leon ard F Crume was filed for probate Tuesday in Carroll circuit court. He left debts paid and his entire estate to Eva F Crume for life, then divided equally among Kenneth Crume Helen Ehrman and Mary Michaels. Eva A Crume named executrix with bond of 376846.56. A. D. Bishop represents executrix.
Local doctors report a plentiful supply of Salk vaccine available. Persons seeking vaccination against polio should contact their physician. shots will be administered during the summer months.
Jim Cope, senior class member and son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cope, receives a Purdue special merit scholarship starting next September. The offer provides $420 for four years, contingent on maintaining a 4.5 grade average or higher, as he enters Purdue this fall to major in electrical engineering.
Flora Presbyterian church observes 50 years of service on May 27. The anniversary includes a day-long program welcoming friends, former members and pastors led by Rev. John L. Prentice. The church property transferred from the Lutheran church in 1907 and the current building, built in 1910, cost 14000. Charter members and their descendants remain part of the congregation.
Tuesday's achievement day at the high school honored seniors and staff. Tom McCormick, a longtime faculty member, received the Hi-Y leadership award after being recalled to the stage to accept the plaque. Harold Dick introduced Nathan H. Wood as a surprise presenter from the association.
Memorial Day services are planned in two county communities. Burlington American Legion will lead services at the Burlington cemetery on Sunday May 27 at 2 p.m. The Camden cemetery service follows at 2 15 p.m. with church groups and the American Legion assisting.
Two Delphi high school teachers submitted resignations in a brief notice. Donna Snoddy is noted among those leaving, with the report highlighting her desire to pursue future success.
In Carroll circuit court Monday, all differences in the Riley Stephens estate were settled by his heirs. Executors renounced their right to serve. W. O. Pettiner named administrator with bond of 3000 dollars. The jury was dismissed.
Seniors honored at the awards and recognition day in the high school auditorium. Principal Harold Dick led the event. Tonight at 8 pm the graduates will conduct their own exercises amid numerous athletic, cheer, and organizational awards to students such as Ted Williams, Ed Wagoner, Barbara Schock, and John Hanna with recognitions from various clubs and sponsors.
Jerry Wagner a Delphi High School junior and son of Mr and Mrs Ralph ee of Madison Two was named most valuable by his track coaches and teammates at Honors Day. The award presented by coach Norm Brite praises his regional meet results at Ft Wayne and confirms his entry in both high and low hurdles for the state meet in Indianapolis.
Mrs Eunice Smith Mrs Esther Schaef Mrs Jane Brown and Miss Mable Wharton were among 107 Carroll County nurses hosted by the J K Lilly Company in Indianapolis as part of its 65th anniversary events. The group toured Lilly plants in Indianapolis and Greenfield and attended a Lincoln hotel banquet with orchid favors. Additional Carroll County nurses will join a similar goodwill tour later this summer.
Mr and Mrs George W Lamb of Lafayette welcome son Craig Randolph born May 17. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Leo C Craig of Delphi. Morris Kirby of Delphi is parent of a tea born at Memorial hospice. Max Landes of Flora route 1 is parent of a daughter born at Memorial hospital.
Fifteen girls and ten boys were chosen to attend the annual 4-H club round-up at Purdue on June 6-8. Jane Ann Jones will appear in State Share the Fun. Delegates are Louann Pearson Adams Carroll Hood Burlington Peterson Deer Creek DuVal Jefferson Fisher Madison Gregg Rock Creek Chapman Washington Billiard Burlington Frantz Clay Miller Jackson Quinn Liberty Schnepf Monroe Lybrook Tippecanoe Flynn Burlington Carter Democrat Hinkle Huse Ruman Democrat Porter Madison Craft Monroe Williams Burlington Zook Deer Creek Adams Jackson Scott Tippe. Expenses are paid by the Carroll County Farm Bureau Co-Op. Delegates were nominated by 4-H adult leaders through achievement records.
A Carroll circuit court petit jury ordered the estate of Alma Thompson to receive $17,400 found in two envelopes from her lock box. The money marked to be delivered to Dr Ralph Scott triggered the lawsuit by Thompson's heirs. Attorneys named for both sides and Judge Fred Campbell presided.
Lloyd Mikesen of the Carroll County ASC announces no aggregate compliance provision for 1956 corn. Each farm must stand on its own corn acreage. a farmer with multiple farms may comply on one farm and still qualify for the loan on that farm’s allotment.
Camden American Legion began preparatory work for a new Legion home on Tuesday. Ground was leveled and construction is to start soon just east of the old blacksmith shop in Camden.
Members will hold a dinner dance at the club house on Tuesday evening May 29 starting at 6 30. The dance is scheduled at 9 30. For more information call 361 147 or the club office.
Mayor Roy Clauser proclaims Friday and Saturday May 25 and 26 as Poppy Days in Delphi urging citizens to wear the memorial Poppy to honor war dead and those who served. The proclamation recalls patriotic service and sacrifices of local young men on foreign fields.
Plans are set for the grand opening of Delphi Lodge No. 28 IOOF remodeled rooms. Open house 1 to 3 p m Sunday invites public to inspect. At 3 p m Rochester degree team will initiate a class, Rev O P Manker speaker at banquet, Terhune degree team to present first degree at 8 p m.
Explorer Scouts from this community will visit Great Lakes Naval Training Center for a three day encampment June 1 to 3. They will tour service schools view operations and enjoy dances and activities including a hayride and dance at the Moose Lodge with their friends.
Dr. John W. Southworth announces an open house at Logansport State Hospital on Sunday May 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public is invited to tour all departments where staff will be available to answer questions.
A violent thunderstorm with high winds struck after midnight damaging the County Home and causing power outages. Superintendent Warnie Mullendore said the chimney collapsed into rooms, with redecorated areas damaged. Authorities estimate damage in the hundreds of dollars.
New Officers of Harry Bohan Post No 75, American Legion, were selected at the Monday night meeting. Art McDowell will be commander, with Don Wilson and Earl Sweet as vice commanders. Board roles assigned include John T. Smith adjutant and Don Huffman finance officer. The group approved a $100 donation to the Scout cabin, $75 to Little League, and a Mental Health fund gift. New officers to be installed in July.
A change in ownership at Union Insurance Agency in Delphi announced this week. Harry E. Reed, founder since 1932, sold half interest to Morris Skiles, who has worked with Reed for three years. The firm handles insurance and real estate.
Delaware residents from Delphi attend the spring Moose Lodge conference in Indianapolis at the Claypool Hotel. Attendees include Jerry Boone governor Charles Shank secretary Wayne Goram treasurer and Floyd Sigman Jr governor of the local lodge. The event runs May 25 26 and 27.
