Heavy rains caused a six inch storm in eight hours near Monon washing water onto state roads and washing a train into a ditch north of Pittsburg. Damages run into thousands of dollars as officials warn of continuing flooding potential and road closures.
Township trustees of the first and second districts met in Delphi drawing nearly two hundred visitors. Sessions at the Country Club and Presbyterian church included talks by Grover Van Dyne Otto Jensen and Ammon Swope. Music by local students accompanied the program and a city tour followed lunch.
Indiana collected 16,739,604 from state gasoline and motor fuel taxes and licenses in 1932, down 7.2 percent from the year before. The department of agriculture reports 418,489,040 gallons taxed at four cents each, with national consumption down 7.5 percent and total revenue around 514 million dollars.
George Bowman operates the Crampton camp on the Tippecanoe river and his two Lake Freeman club houses. He will host his fish dinners and lunch as the season opens and invites old patrons and new visitors to inspect the facilities near Delphi.
A coroner's inquest held Saturday at 11 in Dr John T Kirkpatrick's office Carroll County found no foul play in the death of Patsy Joan Taylor twenty month old daughter of Mr and Mrs Lester Taylor. The Taylors formerly lived at Pine Village and later separated with the mother and child in West Delphi. The father had requested the investigation and the remains were ordered buried.
Louis Reece and Thomas Howard held in Delphi jail charged with bank robbery asked for a change of venue from Carroll county. They first sought a change of judges and Judge Paul Layman of Frankfort was assigned. Judge Layman has not ruled on the change of venue as we go to press.
The Hickory Grove Ladies will hold a market Saturday from 9 30 to 12 at Cream Station. fp.
Plans are complete for the third annual rally Sunday afternoon by the Carroll county council of religious education at Delphi Presbyterian Church. County winners in Bible memory and storytelling compete in an all county contest led by Miss Mildred Stevens with the county young people chorus providing music and district numbers. The public is invited to attend this program of real interest.
The Wet and Dry organizations filed petitions with over 4000 and 3000 names respectively to challenge repeal at the state convention. J. W. Eikenberry and Everett Flora are named against repeal while Harry Haslet and Jesse Daniels back repeal. Election is June 6 with the convention to be called within 20 days.
The Illinois supreme court declared the sales tax law unconstitutional blocking a $60,000,600 unemployment relief raise. The unanimous opinion allows merchants to refund collectors if sales tickets are presented. Indiana sales tax law likely to be tested in the courts.
The reconstruction corporation acts to reopen Fletcher American National Bank of Indiana polis, a major Indiana financial institution. It maintains many correspondent banks across the state and will release deposits under the corporation action.
The Citizen invites county ball clubs to send announcements of upcoming games and post results. Fans want to know where teams are playing and the paper will print all news furnished by local clubs.
Inflation minded speculators push the slogan dollar a bushel wheat as public buying remains strong. Prices rise across grains with wheat up about 9 cents, rye 9 to 11 cents, corn near 9 cents, oats 2.7 to 3 cents, and provisions up 32 to 57 cents. Winnipeg and other markets show strength, bolstering inflation talk.
The high school will host the Dame Oratorical contest Thursday at the gymnasium. Participants include Arthur McDowell Jack Orr Charles Benner Claude Wise Robert Wagner William Ryan for oratory and Mary Erb Margaret Shaffer Aileen Jackson Opal Smith Kathleen Ope ay Lou Marina for reading.
World War veterans in Carroll County, receiving monthly pensions between 10 and 25 dollars, were informed that a June 30 cut-off under a congressional economy act will end their allowances. Victims must refile claims if they have partial disability. Nationwide, over 17,000 state wide will lose pensions after two more payments.
Relatives in this city mourn the sudden death of Dr Henry B Tisch at his Wheatland home after a heart attack Sunday afternoon. Mrs Tisch, formerly Eva Hanna here, arrived with the body Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at the Hanna residence Thursday at three o'clock with Rev L E Knox officiating. Burial followed at the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Estella T. Leslie sues John F. Hall in Carroll circuit court seeking $400 as payment for real estate sold to the defendant. The complaint demands the amount be allowed against the buyer.
The Yeoman Bank was designated as a Class A bank by the state banking department on Monday. Bank officials and many depositors praised the designation, noting the bank as one of the county’s strong financial institutions.
Governor McNutt will promulgate the 1933 laws as copies arrive from the printer. The act book runs 1392 pages, with beer control at 30 pages and banking laws at 182 pages. Some laws have already been declared unconstitutional in various courts and may go to the supreme court, delaying final decisions.
County assessor Orvel Schock reports receipt of special attachment slips for postal savings and other intangibles. He urges residents to visit his office for property appraisals before May 28, the final date. The assessor notes that if a new note replaces an old one and is endorsed with tax amount on the back, stamps on the new note are not needed if tax was paid on the old one.

Thomas Howard, 24, fourth member of the gang charged with the Burlington bank hold up, was moved from Indianapolis to the county jail and arraigned before Judge Pruitt. Howard pleaded not guilty and a change of venue was sought for Reece and Howard, with Judge Paul Layman named as special judge. Trial dates set for Reece on May 15 and Howard on June 5.
County Auditor Whiteman estimates Carroll county total mortgage indebtedness at five million dollars with about three million filed for farm mortgages. At 5 percent interest the annual interest payment would be around 250000. May 1 was the filing deadline for mortgage exemptions. Katherine Lucas suffered a badly sprained ankle at the skating rink and is using crutches.

Dr. E L Miller and Dr Donald Miller certify a self defense verdict for William Saunders after a night arrest attempt by O A Rothrock. Saunders died from leg wounds and failed surgery at Logansport hospital days later. The incident followed a funeral and ten witnesses were questioned.
William Raines and others filed suit in Cass County to compel Farmers State Bank of Young America stockholders to pay about 25000 in assessments. The bank closed January 1932 and the action is on the relation of the state of Indiana. The complaint cites reducing multiple actions through stockholder liability.
A Tuesday ruling from the governor’s store tax department says churches and similar organizations operating bazaars rummage sales and markets are classified as stores. They must pay a $3 yearly tax plus a 50 cent filing fee and may hold markets at any chosen time.
Reports of a large wildcat near Georgetown persist as residents guard livestock and listen for screams at night. Two men, Frank Gray and Clifford Good, have seen the animal while others found oversized tracks but failed to locate the creature.
Lawrence Arnsman, field supervisor for Indiana store license fee division, spent days in the county assessor's office discussing the store license law with merchants. He warns those who have not obtained licenses since 1929 that penalties apply under the store license fee act. He left application blanks with the assessor for interested dealers and plans to return to Delphi about the gross income tax effective May 1 1933 with July due payments.
Jefferson Grange of Yeoman and Tipwa Grange will host a special Mother's Day program in Pittsburg this Thursday evening. The entertainment committee includes Mrs. Larry Gruber, Mrs. Lewis Dock and Miss Vivian Henderson. A separate note mentions a minister accused of kicking a dog out of church, drawing congregational outcry.
