Plans are under way for an upcoming Pittsburg art show as a sign of spring. The event will cap a busy week with a big night on Wednesday March 16 and features a school organization sponsored program at Delphi High School gym along with other community happenings in the area.
Carroll County Young Democrats elected officers for the coming year at Flora. Tom Billings of Carrollton Township was chosen president with Karmen Sheagley of Cutler as vice president Pete Wagoner of Camden as secretary and Roger Beckner of Bringhurst as treasurer. The group plans monthly meetings and special programs to inform young voters on key issues.
Carroll County Farm Bureau Co-op held its 38th annual meeting at Carroll High School Cafetorium. Five directors were elected to three year terms including newly elected Harold Allread and Eldon D. Robeson. Re‑elected were Rob ert Ayres Rob ert Scott and Charles Hanna. Vice chairman John T. Downham presided in the illness absence of Estal Mullin. Lectures covered trips to Germany and to the American Institute of Co‑ops at Missouri University.
Delphi seniors and club members will be honored at the annual dance Chateau A Go Go on March 26 from 8 to 11 pm in the high school cafeteria. Blast Inc. will provide a six piece swing set as the Eiffel Tower reproduction centers the gym. Grades 9 to 12 pay 50 cents admission with dressy attire.
Artists from St Marys College Notre Dame will be highlighted at the Delphi Community Schools Art Show in the REMC Auditorium after Easter. The event runs April 17 to 19 with Hoosier Art Salon selections and works by local artists and art classes. Mrs Ned Long chairs the project with a committee of local teachers and officials.
Fred Hedderich filed for reelection as trustee of Jackson Township on the Democratic ticket and Bill Dern filed for Justice of the Peace in Deer Creek Township on the Republican ticket marking a sparse entry week in local politics.
A 19 year old appeared in Yeerroll Circuit Court on charges tied to the Sunday theft of a 1963 car owned by Don Prescott. Mike Kite made no plea and asked for counsel. Sheriff James Coghill pursued him for eight miles before he lost control and wrecked the vehicle near Cutler.
In regular session Monday evening the council learned the water tower needs painting. Water Superintendent Glen Harner was instructed to solicit bids from interested firms for the work as the Delphi City meeting recessed.
IOOF No 28 plans a progressive euchre party to be held Saturday March 12 at 8 p m. The event invites members to join an evening of cards and socializing at the lodge.
One thousand three hundred twenty nine Purdue University students earned distinguished status in the fall semester with 181 maintaining straight A records. The criteria require a grade average of at least 5.5 of 60 in 14 credit hours and no grade below C. County residents Anna Mary Guckien Carl De von Humbarger Edward Lee Langston Thomas Dwight Langston Barbara Ellen Walker and Barbara Kay Witter are listed among those honored.
During the past week marriage licenses were issued to Kenneth David Lear age 25 of Monticello route 1 and Janet Darlene Heckathorne route 2 Flora, to Paul E Simms age 42 Flora and Carolyn A Birdsell age 23 Flora.
At last week's meeting of the Carroll County Christian Youth Council plans were made for a paper drive to be held April 11.
Mrs. Paul Quick, Heart Fund Memorials Chairman for Carroll County, reports $131.50 contributed to the fund in the last three months. Funds support the Indiana Heart Association research program. Names memorialized include Mrs. Paul Chainey, Paul Goyer, Carl Scherbert, Edward Grimm, Jack Grimm, William Roberts, Mrs. Laura Polk, and others.
The annual Chamber of Commerce gathering for members and guests will be held Monday evening March 21 at the Carroll County Country Club. Serving begins at 7 o'clock. Guest speaker E G Hoffman is manager area development from Northern Indiana Public Service Company Hammond.
Charles A. Smith of the Lafayette District receives the President's Citation for 1965 all around achievements. Senior Vice President Raymond W. Cobb of Mid-America credits the honor to top staff managers and agents nationwide for leadership in sales and service.
Howard Zerfas announces March 6 to 12 as National Eye Bank Week and urges Carroll County residents to support the Indiana Lions Eye Bank Inc a key Lions service project. Donating eyes is open to all, with forms available by mail or phone through Delphi contact Lion Frank Wilcox.
Eighteen Carroll County clergymen attended a daylong mental health workshop at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Delphi on Tuesday March 8. The event featured pastors from Flora Camden Deer Creek and other towns along with Carroll County Mental Health Association members and an afternoon panel on the pastor's role in referrals. A follow up workshop is planned for May 10 1966 at Logansport State Hospital to include additional attendees.
C Dean Spear assistant general agent for American National Insurance Kokomo district surpassed the million-dollar sales mark in 1965. He was named leading agent of the Mid Central Division covering Indiana Illinois and Kentucky and earned regional outstanding new assistant general agency. Spear, a Delphi native now in Peru with his wife and two children, served in the Air Force.
Delphi Community Schools placed second in funds from the Frankfort sectional. Four thousand five hundred eight season tickets and 2,565 single session tickets sold for a gross of 13835 dollars. Distribution by schools lists Frankfort 2426.69, Delphi 1710.29, Clinton Central 1469.72, East Tipp 1333.39, Wainwright 1320.99, Clinton Prairie 1316.75, Rossville 1137.57, Linden 987.13.
The Carroll County REMC annual meeting will be at Carroll Consolidated High School on Wednesday March 16 at 7 30 P M Five directors will be elected from Districts 3 4 5 11 and 12 Nominees include Charles Pearson Martin Justice Orville Campbell Mark Garrison and Clarence Cleaver The Elmer Hinkle Variety Group of Oxford Ohio will perform A Sunbeam electric clock will be a door prize for every attending member with other major awards also planned
In regular session Monday the County Commissioners approved claims and awarded the county farm grocery bid for the next three months to Johnson's Grocery in Camden.
Mr and Mrs Joseph T Ives entertained a group of friends at supper Sunday evening in their home.
Carroll County Health Department and area schools will present youth educational films to parents and adults on March 14 at Flora School Auditorium 7 30 p.m March 18 at Monroe Street High School Auditorium 8 p.m and March 21 at Yeoman School 7 p.m A Carroll County Medical Society member will join for a discussion period.
Postmaster R L Sieber announced new postal rates effective March 26. Money orders rise five cents, COD mail 20 cents, certified mail 10 cents, insured mail 10 cents, and registered mail fees increase with value in addition to postage.
Miss Leonor Vallejo the American Field Service exchange student from Colombia will speak at the Mother-Daughter Banquet at Yeoman Methodist Church on Tuesday March 15 at 6 30. Ladies will serve the meal and tickets are available from circle chairmen with reservations due by March 10.
Delphi Explorer Scouts sponsor teen dance in the Recreation Hall Delphi from 7 30 to 10 45 p m with music by the Intellects.
Harvey Martin of West Delphi was brought to St Elizabeth Hospital on Wednesday March 2 for observation and treatment after his arrival for medical care.
Walter Neff 84 and Charlie Eisenhart 79 celebrated birthdays on Sunday February 27 with music at home near Ockley Bringhurst. Neff played with the Sharp Point Band and others. Eisenhart was a Sunday School pianist and taught adults in the 1930s at his Bringhurst home.
