Indiana Livestock Strong Bulk Of State Farm Income In 1945
Indiana agriculture remains led by livestock and livestock products which accounted for 9 percent of cash farm income in 1945. The state’s total cash farm income reached about 708 million dollars, up from 160 million in 1938, with hogs and dairy cattle among top contributors. Field crops rose notably, aided by favorable prices and expanded acreages despite shortages. The June Field Day at Purdue University Lafayettes Soil and Crop Experiment Field will showcase newer oat, grass, legume varieties and fertilizer tests, highlighting Bet better pasture legumes and alfalfas in reinforced trials.
