Friends of Dr. Jack Orr celebrate his appointment as Dean of Pharmacy at the University of Montana. He notes winter deliberations, misses Salt Lake, visits Missoula, and plans to adjust to small-town life near the university with a focus on Maxine, his wife.
The Indiana Congress of Parents and Teachers announced scholarships for junior and senior teacher education students at Ball State Indiana State University Indiana University and Purdue. William McVay of Camden received a $200 scholarship at Purdue.
More than 95 officers and directors from 13 REMCs attended the Carroll County REMC hosted dinner meeting last Thursday. Northwest Indiana REMCs were represented and discussions covered business and management issues.
W. S. Weaver, a local vocational agriculture teacher, will be interviewed on Purdue University station WBAA at noon on Saturday June 14.
The Rockfield Indiana Cheer Club selects Garth Galbreth son of Delmar and Mrs Galbreth of Farmers Store as this week's member. A Rockfield High School graduate class of 1932 he has been ill since childhood and lived at home seven years. Known as a postal messenger and National Guard participant he has shown strong support for the club. Lydia Royster reported receiving 35 cards last week.
Dr Jack E Orr of Delphi is appointed Dean of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Montana in Missoula. He will also be Professor of Pharmacy and is noted as a young, accomplished scholar with a Purdue and Wisconsin background. The Orrs plan to move to Missoula in July after selling their Salt Lake home and Orr will present a paper at the University of Michigan seminar on July 7.
Delphi will host a man made fogging operation Friday evening June 13 starting at 9 00 pm to combat mosquitoes. If weather cancels the fogging it will be rescheduled next week. Auto owners should keep cars off streets after 9 00 pm. Arab Pest Control of Indianapolis will conduct DDT fogging.

The local Business and Professional Women's Club schedules its annual rose breakfast and installation of officers for Sunday morning June 15 at 8 p m at the Country Club.
Delphi Jaycees announce preliminary Miss Delphi contest to showcase girls with various talents. Organizer Harry Steinman Jr. says the event aims to bring talent to public attention ahead of the June 27 contest. The winner will advance to the state Lafayette pageant, followed by a dance.
Mrs. Faye B Wise of Camden appointed president of the Indianapolis chapter of the Federation of Chaparral writers a national nonprofit group of writers poets and editors. The Chaparral meets the first Sunday in alternate months and the next gathering is August at Mrs Edward Pruitts home 5234 Regent St Indianapolis. Wise won first place in the state Chaparral contest with the poem Was It You Dedicated to Lewis Wise.
Checks totaling 597323.44 are mailed today by the County Auditor to Carroll county taxing units. The county general fund receives 95496.51 and Delphi school 76602.06. Yeoman town clerk gets 386.58.
Wayne Eikenberry announces start of summer programs for local youth with directors named for playground arts crafts 4-H FFA band and chorus. The schedule lists weekday mornings and evenings across the three parks with swimming lessons starting in July at Columbian Park Pool and a summer baseball schedule including towns like Terbein Flora Otterbein Oxford Brookston West Side and Delphi last year’s league winner with 9 0 record.
George Harvey director of research for the Indiana Farm Bureau will speak at a county wide Farm Bureau meeting in Delphi at the REMC auditorium on June 20 at 8 30 p m daylight saving time. Devotions by Rev Russell Hensley of Flora Christian church and piano and vocal selections by Patricia Meade and Helen Cleaver follow. Refreshments after the program.
Gerber Industries of Delphi donated a new shower cabinet to Camp Buffalo the Boy Scout camp. Volunteers installed the cabinet last weekend and C. Leo Williams general manager presented it.
William Isley of Colburn was arrested Saturday night on reckless driving charges from a complaint by Wilbur Miller. He was arraigned and fined $15 plus $25.75 costs, with a second charge for driving with an expired license resulting in $5 fine and $15.75 costs.
Sheriff Carey and Detective Lee Morris recovered a battery charger stolen from the Ben Been service station in Burrows. The item was traced to the W. C. McNatt used car lot in Logansport where it had been sold for 25 dollars.
The Red Cross Blood Mobile collected 107 pints at the REMC auditorium in Delphi on Monday. Carroll County Red Cross and volunteers from Lions Club Medical Auxiliary and others supported the drive, with 125 visitors and 18 deferrals. The unit will return August 11. more donors are urged to sign donor cards.
The Social and Education department of the Carroll county Farm Bureau hosts a rural urban guest day on June 13 at the REMC auditorium. A fried chicken luncheon starts at 12 30 DST with alumnae and prominent county women attending. The program features devotional music piano and vocal solos, a panel on Food Costs, and speeches by Mrs Almer Armstrong and J Charles Harter.

William L Slayton and his wife Goldie A Slayton of route 3 Logansport were arrested Friday afternoon by City Police Chief Coghill on public intoxication charges after repeated requests on South Washington Street. William was fined $1 and costs. Goldie was released without trial.
Miss Frances Soldan of route 7 Lafayette was injured when her car crashed into the rear of a parked car on state road 25 west of Delphi. She was en route to Peru and taken to Home hospital Lafayette by Eikenberry ambulance.
Harry Steinman Jr. succeeds James Partington as president of the local Junior Chamber of Commerce after Partington resigns to take a position in Illinois.
Miss Virginia Disinger daughter of Delphi residents will wed Sgt Herbert C McKnight son of Brookston in a 2 30 p m Sunday ceremony at Delphi Christian church. Maid of honor is Miss Dorothy Disinger and best man is Don York. The bride is a nurse at St Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing and Sgt McKnight has just returned from thirteen months in Korea and will report to Camp Atterbury on July 4 for a month before discharge.
Mr and Mrs John Pearson announce the marriage of their daughter Joyce to Douglas McDaniels of Kokomo. They exchanged vows Saturday at a Kokomo Methodist church with Mrs William Horner and L D Haynes in attendance. The couple will live in Kokomo in their new home.
Lena M. Hall files suit in Carroll circuit court for divorce from Vernon H. Hall alleging cruel and inhuman treatment. Married May 7 1948 separated June 9 this year. Seeks 500 alimony and custody of a minor child. Hanna represents the plaintiff.
Dale Reppert tendered his resignation as Flora town marshall to the town board during a special Monday morning meeting after serving in the role for the past year.
Harry Bohannon Post No 75 will confer a lifetime membership on Dr C C Crampton at a gala Monday night June 16 at the Legion Home. A cooperative supper at 6 30 will precede the presentation by Judge William B Smith on the lawn weather permitting. Dr Crampton, 80 Sunday, is the oldest member and graves registration officer for Carroll County.
Carroll county will send 10 students to Indiana University for the 123rd commencement with 2 788 eligible to graduate this summer and 510 who earned degrees last February totaling 3 298 in the 1952 class. Ceremonies begin Monday at 10 p m in Memorial Stadium with alumni events and services surrounding the big day. Carroll County participants include W Eikenberry Burlingee C Harness Carolyn Edging Tesh Wickard Roma Coapstick Nort Lacquer Nagele Irene Sims Walter Wilson and Flora Brübaker among others.
Five registrants from the Carroll Selective Service Board underwent re-examination in Indianapolis last Thursday. Those recalled were Herman E. Smith Kenneth D. Sharp Ernest D. Mitchell Robert E. Maxwell and Luther C. James.
David E. Jenner of Indianapolis was arrested Sunday night in Flora by Sheriff Sparkey Carey on a public intoxication charge. He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Lee Stone and fined $1.00 plus costs totaling $10.25.
Leroy Johnnie Franklin won the Little 500 push-mobile race at Pittsburg on Sunday afternoon. Lonnie Woods finished second. A large crowd attended and cash prizes were awarded to all entrants.
