Law expands penalties for resisting officers and harming them

Governor Leslie signed acts from the last General Assembly creating crimes for resisting or opposing officers and assisting officers in discharge of duty. Fines up to 100 dollars and jail up to six months for resisting an officer, and up to one year for firing or using a dangerous weapon or injuring an officer. Richard Lieber, conservation director, says the measures aid enforcement of fish and game laws amid past resistance by dynamiters and seiners.
