Kidwell, a 1964 DHS graduate, received a 150 dollar scholarship at an academic theater banquet honoring five outstanding students for acting, technical ability, and overall contributions to IA theatre productions. Also noted were Memorial Day flags, a lịch historymobile stop, and local Democratic Precinct Workers Convention plans.
County officials announce reseal of 1965 corn and prior years 1964 1963 1962 crops. Loans may be called if supplies rise, with delivery instructions via the County Office. If farmers deliver to CCC, corn moves quickly to meet export commitments and CCC bins hold adequate stocks for unforeseen needs.
The Carroll County Highway Department started road spraying on May 31. Residents who do not wish the roadside spray may place a Phase sign reading Do Not Spray to opt out.
The Greenspan idea moves cropland to open space wildlife habitat and recreation under the Cropland Adjustment Program. Farmers retain title while acres shift from surplus crops and communities may get financial help similar to CAP funds. Carroll ASC seeks June 30 agreements with county and state committees. Cost sharing for conservation applies to both farmers and Greenspan participants.
Clinton A. Clark of route 4 Delphi completed a Radio and Television Servicing course and earned a diploma from the National Radio Institute in Washington DC. He finished the program with creditable grades.
Ball State University will confer 1 316 degrees at the June 5 commencement led by speaker Dr Owen Meredith Wilson president of the University of Minnesota. ROTC cadets will receive commissions as second lieutenants from Dr John R Emens Ball State president. Area graduates include Larry Yeakley Rita Oyler Patricia Todd Mary Jane Fisher George Mullin Ringer Donald Bullock among others from Bringhurst Burlington Delphi and other Indiana counties states and foreign countries.
Dr. Lyle Loomis will fill the pulpit at Yeoman Methodist Church Sunday June 5. Loomis is the executive secretary of the Board of Education of the Northwest Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church. Pastor Bill Moon and his family left May 30 for a week vacation in Illinois.
A Norfolk Western freight derailment near Rockfield injured no one and damaged eleven cars. The westbound train of 110 to 120 cars, en route from Peru to Decatur Illinois, derailed at 2 30 p m Thursday as it left a siding after another train passed. Officials cited a broken or sprung rail as the cause. State Troopers Dennis Davis and Herb Clear investigated.
Mrs Don Jewell of near Cutler accepts the staff worker post for the Migrant Ministry summer program sponsored by Carroll County Council of Churches. She will attend a June training conference and the first volunteer session is June 14 at Flora Methodist Church. About 265 Spanish American migrant workers are expected. donations are needed.
Church schedules a Sunday June 5 photo day after 9 30 a m worship for choir youth groups officials and organizations for a pictorial directory. Members are urged to be present and to respond to phone appointment requests for family or individual photographs.
Mrs Lyle Voight and sons of Minneapolis visit her parents Mr and Mrs Harold Kittner and Mrs Bertha Moon of New Carlisle visits grandson Charles Ritzler. Mr and Mrs Burton Honan were in Vincennes last week for a banquet at Vincennes University. Clarence McCormick former Secretary of Agriculture receives outstanding citizen of the year citation and sits on the University and Good Samaritan Hospital boards. He helped plan the agricultural adjustment program as Undersecretary while Honan and McCormick were close colleagues since.
The Indiana Sesquicentennial Historymobile will be in Carroll County at Flora's Stephans IGA parking lot all day Tuesday June 7. The 35 foot blue and white bus showcases 18 exhibits tracing Indiana history from prehistoric times to today. For more information contact John Peterson in Delphi.
A Co-op Elevator in Ockley was opened by a rear door and missing tools valued at 125 to 150 dollars, a calculator, and check stubs. State Detective Dale Douglass investigates. The Delphi Laundromat suffered a Friday break in with a rear door pried open. about 35 dollars was taken and some money overlooked. State Detective Dale McCurdy investigates.
Indiana State University will award 1 809 degrees at the 95th commencement on Sunday June 5 at 6 pm. ISU President Alan C Rankin will preside over the outdoor exercises in the University quadrangle. William T. Bennett Jr US Ambassador to Portugal will deliver the commencement address. Carroll County graduates include Camden Bell Delph i Johnson Packard Bright Terry Bright.
Forty two members of Gamama Alpha Chapter of Tri Kappa entertained pledges at a dessert event Tuesday evening May 24 at Carroll County Country Club Virginia Brookbank presided at the organ and the program was a big demonstration Pledges named include Mary Ellen Campbell Patricia Dillman Patricia Fieleke Shirley Hizer Conny Martin Susan Maxwell Dianne Minneman Roberta Popejoy Lewis Powlen Marie Rhine Marsha Rosetter Jacqulyn Schilling Suzannah Walker Jean Ward Mabel Weddelland Nancy Wilburn Committee members were Virginia Brookbank chairman Beverly Melichar Lou Limp Ann Smith Mary Clawson and Geraldine Rice After the June HM initiation new members will be entertained at dinner at the Pirates Roost.
James Goyer is spending a 20 day leave with his parents Mr and Mrs Harold Goyer in what appears to be a family visit as part of military or school service.
Twenty Camden Junior High School students entered an essay contest for Indiana’s 150th birthday. Carolyn Martin, a ninth grader, won first place for her piece Woodville. Bronze medals were awarded to Carolyn Susan Scott and Carl Snipes. Carolyn’s essay appears on page 2 this week.
Joe Weaver was named assistant basketball coach at Logansport High School. He previously coached freshman basketball at Lincoln Junior High, led his team to the city cage title, and also serves as assistant track coach. Weaver is a Delphi High School graduate of 1953, married to Mary Lynn Orr, with two children.
The Rev. Wilburn Nelson of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church will leave Friday for Houston to enter a joint pastoral care and chaplaincy program. He will earn an S.T.M. in pastoral care from Perkins School of Theology and certification as a hospital chaplain from the Institute of Religion. He previously served as student chaplain at Minnesota State Mental Hospital and studied mental health care in Washington, D.C., with a grant from HEW.
Fifty six Purdue University men including Stephen M. Thomas of Delphi have been initiated into Tau Beta Pi, the national all engineering honorary society. Tau Beta Pi honors academic excellence and requires upper fifth class rank for seniors and second semester juniors, upper eighth for first semester juniors.
The Brewster Insurance Agency of Burlington earned the Hi Flyer Best Production award from Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company among over 325 agents. The honor came at the Cooper Club luncheon in Indianapolis, with an AM FM transistor radio as a prize and a separate award for 1966 Cooper Club membership honoring Harry F Cooper Sr.
The second meeting for all interested in helping the mentally retarded is set for Wednesday June 8 at 7 30 pm at the Flora Church of the Brethren. Temporary officers will be elected and a film titled Tuesday's Child will be shown. Open to all interested.
Mr and Mrs William Dickinson and daughters Belinda and Mrs Richard Hamilton attended Mississippi State University graduation exercises last week where Ron Dickinson received a degree in agriculture.
Delphi students prepare for a busy summer with physical education sessions from 7 30 to 9 30 am starting June 6 led by Tony Berto. A 5 deposit with 4 refunded on completion, requires payment receipts and office deposit drop off. Band instrument lessons and private instruction fill the timetable with schedules for 7th and 8th graders across brass woodwind and percussion groups.
The first meeting of the summer driver's training class is set for Friday June 3 at 9 30 a m in room 228. Students must pay a $5.00 fee by June 6, with payment due in the high school office.

A Frankfort man, Glen Roddell, 22, was treated in Memorial Hospital in fair condition after a car truck crash two miles south of Delphi at 8 pm Monday. Roddell’s vehicle slowed on Carroll County Road 100 N and was rear ended by James Rieken, 41, of Flora. Roddell’s car then went through a fence. damage was $100 to the front of the Rickn pickup. The 1950 Roddell auto was a total loss. Sheriff James Coghill investigated.
St Matthew s Lutheran Church adjusts Sunday services this summer with worship from 9 to 10 am and Sunday School 10 to 11 am starting this Sunday June 5 and continuing through the last Sunday of August for planning convenience of members and visitors.
The program starts June 13 for eight year olds and students from third grade to high school. Tentative hours are 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. A full activities schedule remains in planning and will be announced next week.
John Green of Detroit Michigan son of Mrs Margaret Green of Springfield Illinois and nephew of Mrs Abner Bowen of Delphi is in Europe for the final three weeks of study on a Sloan Fellowship Forty two young men are accepted each year for fellowships at the Sloan School of Management at MIT The minimum age is 35 but Green was awarded the scholarship at 31 He is a University of Illinois graduate and earned his master’s degree at Wayne State University in Detroit under Chrysler sponsorship He and his family have lived in Boston for the past year He will visit London Milan Frankfurt and Paris interviewing industrialists in all four cities
