The first year of Sheriff Carey’s term shows 181 arrests by county and local police. Public intoxication led with 73 arrests. other charges include drunken driving 34 and investigation 23. The sheriff’s team handled 74 wrecks totaling 101 autos, 23 trucks, and 2 school buses, with two fatalities and 49 injuries.
Daniel Lee Wise infant son of Ralph and Carmen Wise died Tuesday at 10 30 am at St Elizabeth hospital Lafayette. Final rites set for Thursday at 10 am at Leiter funeral home with Rev C A Stewart officiating. Burial in Maple Lawn cemetery. Surviving grandparents are Mr and Mrs Ed Allbaugh Route 1 Bringhurst and Mr and Mrs Carl Wise of Camden rural route.
Blanche A Landis of Flora qualifies as administratrix of her father Climpton T Graham. Court records list estate value at 35000 personal property and 40000 real estate. A D Bishop represents the administrator.
Architects unveil concept for a ranch style jail residence at the Delphi site on Illinois and Main streets. The project includes sheriff quarters with three bedrooms and a garage, plus remodeling of the jail to separate juveniles and women on the second floor and males on the ground floor. Total cost is about 35000 dollars with 15000 allocated this year and bond plans to cover the rest.
Purdue Extension announces Harold R. Berry to succeed Howard McCarty as county agent and June Lowther to become County Home Demonstration Agent in Carroll County. Berry, formerly Madison county assistant agent since 1947, and Lowther, a former Deer Creek teacher, will assume duties shortly.
Camden captures its own New Year’s tournament crown by defeating Wolcott 63-40 in the championship after beating Brookston 55-46. Kendall 10 and Chapman 20 lead Camden’s scoring, while Farney 12 and Anker 4 pace Wolcott in a strong title run. Officials were Mickey McNaught and Charles Meade.
The estate of Mrs. Jennettie Schock is opened in Carroll circuit court in vacation. John Kennard is named administrator, with $1500 in personal property and $13,000 in real estate. Julien and Kerlin represent the administrator.
A marriage license has been issued to Donald E. Huff age 20 son of Mr and Mrs Robert Huff of Camden and Betty A Landes daughter of Mr and Mrs Ardis Landes of Burnettsville.
Sheriff and Mrs. Calvin L Carey hosted a watch party for the Burlington High School 1921 graduates on New Year’s Eve marking the unit’s 30th anniversary. Eleven alumni attended including Munson Brewster Floyd Cleaver Lee Woodrum Paul Davis Fern Brown Bernice Johnson Vera Gilbert Ray Shirar and the Careys with several spouses as guests.
Robert Brass, a teacher in the local school system, could not resume teaching after the Christmas holidays as he is confined to his Syracuse home with a virus infection. Carl McCain, a retired county teacher, substitutes for him in the local schools.
Miss Ariel Green of Bloomington visits Mr and Mrs Everett Lamb. Green formerly taught in the local schools.
Isaac L. Wolfe of Logansport announces the engagement of his daughter Lois Seward of Delphi to Richard E. Cowger of Laf ayette son of Mr and Mrs Joseph C Cowger of Monticello The groom to be works at the Purdue Bank in West Lafayette and the bride is an employee of the local telephone company No wedding date was announced.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd A Pearson of route 4 Lafayette announce the engagement of their daughter Roberta Maxine to Kenneth William Scowden son of Noah C Scowden of route 2 Delphi No date has been set for the wedding.
Climpton T. Graham 78 a well known retired farmer of the Burlington community died Sunday morning in a Logansport hospital after a lingering illness. Born April 12 1873 he was the son of James G and Elizabeth Clingenpeel Graham. He married Emma Rosetta Bock who died May 1 1949. Surviving are a daughter Blanche Landis Flora four grandchildren a half brother Zeelllar Graham Winterset Iowa Funeral rites were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Carter funeral home by Rev C A Stewart. Burial was in Burlington cemetery.
Monticello's rangy Indians defeated the Oracles 52 to 39 at Stagg gym to keep their Holiday Classic championship. The win came after a 58-31 rout of Monon and a 46-39 semifinal victory over West Lafayette, with Dick Roach delivering standout showings. Officials drew fan ire for inconsistent calls in all four games.
The Chicago Collegians, an outstanding colored basketball team, meet the Delphi Rockets Sunday at 2 15 in the Delphi Armory. Noted stars Ben Bluitt Art White and others from Loyola Tennessee Nash ville Washington State DePaul headline the lineup. The Rockets beat South Bend Dodge 89 84 last Sunday as Duane Kleuh scored 52 points with Crocker Buck and others contributing.
The 1926 graduating class of Delphi High School held a reunion at the Delphi Country Club last Wednesday night with 32 members and guests. John Smock presided. talks by George Obear and Tom McCain. Special guests were Virgil Stinebaugh and wife from Indianapolis, former school principal. Organizers included Smock and Ruby Thompson Trent among others. Margaret Limp named to coordinate the next gathering.
Mrs Paul Josephine Brown of near Burrows is listed as a patient at St Joseph hospital Logansport for observation and treatment.
Miss Hilda Bowen announced the Red Cross Fund Drive Planning Committee for Carroll County at a home meeting. Effie Guckien was named County Fund Drive chairwoman and Minnie Roach Delphi chairman. Dick Leiter named Flora Branch chairman. Wallace Snow and Mrs. Snow attended with other members Mary Smock Ralph Melin George Obear and Mrs. Monroe Meade. A planning meeting is set for January 5 at 4 30 p m in the Delphi Library to organize the March Roll Call and boost responses amid high need from overseas workers flood relief and blood drives.

The State Chamber of Commerce says Carroll County Indiana schools have the third highest per pupil cost in the state at 267 dollars, with county totals about 268 dollars. County Supt J C Yonker disputes the figures citing transport costs and notes many schools run well below the state average while some high schools exceed it. Wayne Eikenberry Delphi superintendent provides 1950 51 figures averaging 200.40 for 12 grades. The chamber map and report appear on page 6 of this week's Citizen.
The will of Ida C. Wise of Logansport is probated in Cass circuit court dated March 12 1945. It leaves 25 to St Lukes Sunday School Logansport 20 to Missions 100 to aunt Mina Dock 200 to cousin Grace Shaffer Delphi 100 to cousin Clara Schneider Logansport and reserves the residue to Mrs Grace Shaffer.
Indiana University students came home for the holidays and resumed studies in Bloomington Wednesday morning. Among those listed returning were Carolyn Coble Darrel Zinn Ruth Anne McKinley Donna Timmons Irene Sims John Bradshaw Louise Nagele Max Zook and Carol Clawson.
Mrs. Margaret Gerard, a well known local telephone operator, fractured her knee Monday night in a fall at her East Main home. The knee is in a cast and she remains at home.

Western Auto captured the men actual pins high team title 958, Sportsmen won men handicap high series 3124, Legion Auxiliary led women actual pins, Hall's IGA led women handicap series. Individual prizes include a sweater Deloris Harris a table lamp D. E. Cripe Flora, a hat Julius Clothing, and an auto compass won by Harold Goyer.
Delphi Jaycees will meet Monday night January 7 at 7 a.m. in the REMC auditorium. Men aged 21 to 35 are invited to attend and join the organization. James Partington, manager of the Roxy Theater, serves as acting chairman.
Frank Randolph 74 Burrows resident and trucker died at his home Sunday morning after several weeks illness. Born February 22 1877 he was son of James and Mary Jane Randolph. Treneus Shortridge aged 76 died Friday at his Colburn home after more than a year of illness. He was born nearby, a retired farmer, and a Delphi Methodist church member. Survived by wife Edna Roadtrruck, a sister Mrs. W E Michaels of Colburn, and two stepsons Glen L Calvert of Delphi and Paul R Calvert of Fort Wayne. Funeral held Sunday from the Jackson funeral home in Delphi with Rev Frank Briggs. burial in Masonic cemetery, Delphi.
Mrs. John Wolf of Cleveland Ohio died Sunday at her home after a long illness. She was a daughter-in-law of Mrs Eliza J Wolf of Delphi and visited here often. The husband survives and Mrs Jennie Fettig and Mrs Verl Weaver sisters-in-law traveled to Cleveland for the funeral on Wednesday.
A representative of the Internal Revenue Department will be in Delwhi on Mondays and Wednesdays during January. He will be in room 13 of the Post Office Building from 9 30 a m to 3 30 p m to assist taxpayers in making out 1951 tax returns.
