A Column of Comment on the Farm Board's Final Wheat and Cotton Chips
The Federal Farm Board has used its last funds to support wheat and cotton prices. Congress has voted the remaining 100 million of its 500 million allowance, signaling that the board must succeed or quit. Senator George of Georgia critiques Hoover era policy and warns of treasury strain if amateurs govern. The board holds 130 million bushels of wheat and 2 million bales of cotton purchased above market to prop up prices, with stabilization likely failing.
