Two Henrys Seek Sheriff Nomination in Carroll County

In the Carroll County News, Henry M. Crone of Delphi and Henry Powell of Flora announce for sheriff in the Democratic primary on May 8. Crone, a local butcher and World War II veteran, pledges to do his best if nominated, while Powell, Flora town marshal and former deputy, promises a vigorous campaign. Bert Clifton of Carrollton township also announces, entering a spirited county race. Lloyd Juren may announce later, with other names floated, including E. E. Stephens seeking a joint senate seat. The Citizen will not endorse in the primary and will cover all candidates fairly.

Mrs Floyd Sink Dies By Drowning At Home Farm

Mrs Floyd Sink wife of a Jackson township farmer living about four and a half miles northeast of Delphi committed suicide by drowning in a water trough on the Sink farm last Friday. She was found face down in about a foot and a half of water and had been dead for some time. She had suffered ill health for years since a severe flu. She leaves her husband Floyd Link, three children from her first marriage Mildred Robert and Margaret Dunkin and Capron Sink from the second. Funeral services were at the Baptist church in Flora at 2:00 Sunday afternoon with burial in the Musselman cemetery.

Three Schools Fall Short in Attendance

County Attendance Officer W H Casad reports three schools fell short in attendance last month led by Rockfield. Contagious diseases including smallpox and chickenpox affected Rockfield area but did not close the school. Stewart Guthrie was last afflicted and his quarantine was lifted recently.

County Roads Overseen by William Mullen

William Mullen today became superintendent of the county highway system succeeding Edward Ferrier who resigned at the February board session after ten years in the post. Charles Anderson declined the vacancy and Mullen, from Rock Creek township, was appointed.
