Students visited local business houses last week gaining valuable experience. The visit improved appreciation for the town’s offerings and provided a youth viewpoint for the community.

Merrell Plummer of Elmwood Addition asks for gravel on Columbia street to improve access to garages. He notes residents have long dealt with rough road conditions and wants action from the city.
Merrell observed a smile over the smooth fix at Connelly and Columbia where crushed stone replaced an impassable section. Mr. Plummer drove through last evening and his car sank to the bumpers, prompting a city truck to pull him free after he refused a garageman.
Two residents John Thompson and W H Doc Brown with their wives were stopped on a Georgia highway while visiting Athens. After a day and a half delay they posted bail totaling 15 dollars.
The first robin sighting was reported Tuesday afternoon by Bill Coddin and Bill Holmes in front of the Frushour home on Main Street.

Harold Thayer heard a dog fight outside his home in South Delphi. He retrieved a broom to intervene but in the melee between the dogs and himself, he suffered a broken finger. He is unsure exactly how the injury occurred.
County officials fear disputes over relocating a street in Bringhurst could trigger investigations if neighboring properties extend beyond their lines. They note many buildings may sit on someone else’s land and expect more inquiries.
Bronze plates listing all World War II servicemen and servicewomen have arrived and rest in cases in the courthouse rotunda. Work to place them in their proper positions will be completed soon.

Bert and Bertha McClary of Rochester file four separate suits in Carroll circuit court seeking a total of 41000 for injuries and property loss after their August 23 1947 crash into a truck owned by Jacob Cripe three miles north of Rochester. The actions claim injuries to Mrs McClary including a fractured collar bone brain concussion and permanent arm disability and damages for loss of services along with vehicle and medical costs and for Mr McClary a broken jaw knee injury and lip tear. Attorneys Walter Reese Julien and Kerlin represent the plaintiffs.
Ice blocking the Bicycle Bridge broke away at 2 17 p m Tuesday, moving down the river and ending flood fears for the town. Ice also shifted from near Logansport and Long Cliff, with only minor field flooding reported and crowds watching the release at the Bicycle Bridge.
Miss Waunita Haslet, daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Haslet of Delphi, had two paintings accepted for the Northern Indiana Art Salon exhibition opening Friday at Edward C Minas store in Hammond. She is invited to attend and was informed she will be awarded a prize.
The Court House at Delphi will be closed on Monday February 23 in observance of George Washingtons birthday. Sheriff Sanford Allen announces the closure.
More than 1000 students from 35 schools will attend the Northern Indiana Band Orchestra and Vocal Association solo and ensemble festival at Kokomo High School. Delphi will enter solos by Bob Wert David Clifford Francis Wright James Ferrier Dinty Johnson Norma Johnson Bill Roach and Julia Smith plus multiple ensembles including Cornet Trios Clarinet Trios and quartets with faculty and accompanists providing support.
Camden mortician Harold Baker sustained knee and neck injuries in a Michigan town head on crash that killed Carl Buchholz of Logansport. Police say Baker's brakes locked after glare from Harold Smith's headlights blinded him. Smith was unhurt, Buchholz died at the scene, other passengers suffered minor injuries.
Mrs. Paul Johnson announces a luncheon meeting of the Carroll County Social Hygiene Association to be held Friday February 20 at 12 30 at the Ranch House. Future activities will be discussed.
Delphi Legion post hosts an eight team sectional basketball event at the Delphi Armory on Saturday and Sunday February 21 and 22. Saturday schedule includes Walton vs Camden Logansport vs Delphi Chalmers vs Flora Monticello vs Lafayette with later games. Sunday features semifinals and a 7:30 pm championship game.
Homer Cripe of Flora announced a new Pontiac agency to open in Delphi this week. The shop will occupy the Ratcliff building where AAA currently is and aims to move to new quarters after the lease ends. Cripe, in autos since 1924, also runs Flora Auction and Motor Sales. no Pontiac dealer in the county since 1941.
Commissioners hear arguments on the Lind street relocation in Bringhurst. John Siegrist petitions to relocate the street amid opposition from landowner Fred Ross. Attorneys Bishop Lane and Joseph T. Ives represent Siegrist. George Qbear represents Ross. Luther Ross recused himself due to a related party.
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Weckerly of Delphi completed purchase of the Harris Locker Plant on North Washington Street and took possession. Mrs. Harris stays on this week for inventories as the new owners continue the existing policies. The Harris couple sold due to Mr Harris illness. the Weckerlys also operate a nearby grocery in the same building.
A Delphi meeting of county Democratic precinct committeemen and voters named Alice Sledge of Flora as vice chairman to fill the unexpired term. Orval Schock led discussions on upcoming campaign issues and outlined township organization meetings planned for February 25 across Adams, Clay, Democrat, Burlington, Jackson, Rock Creek, Monroe, Jefferson.
Kathleen Goode a 15 year old Linden high school cheerleader and sister of Mrs. Howard McCarty Delphi was killed in an auto accident Friday night en route to a Linden Covington basketball game. The crash happened at highways 34 and 41 west of Crawfordsville on icy pavement. her brother Charles Goode 20 drove the car and La Bruens of Terre Haute another vehicle. Funeral rites and burial were at Linden.
Delphi's chapter of FFA will broadcast at noon Tuesday February 24 over radio station W2BAA Purdue. Chapter advisors W S Weaver Bill Duff Bill Roach and Jason Stewart will participate in the broadcast. The topic of discussion will be National FFA Week.
Mrs Hugh Davies entertained recently with a stork shower honoring Mrs Jack Wilkinson. The event celebrated Mrs Wilkinson likely expecting a birth, with attendees and gifts noted in society notes.
A White County Adams township meeting discussed dissolving the Adams high school with Idaville and Burnettsville trustees. Voters rejected a county unit but supported a regional unit, and a consolidation inquiry was authorized pending talks with White County trustees.

Russell Allen a 28 year old Delphi man is scheduled to appear in circuit court at 2 30 p m today to face charges of receiving stolen property and second degree burglary His bond is set at 3500 and police say an untold amount of loot stolen from various local establishments was found at his home He admitted breaking into Metzger Lumber Company The loot was taken by a group of juveniles who will be arraigned in juvenile court later and are now with their parents.
In Hollywood Florida a Saturday party celebrated the thirteenth wedding anniversary of Dr and Mrs John Kirkpatrick Delphi residents wintering in Hollywood Guests included Mr and Mrs W H Brown Mr and Mrs John R Thompson Mrs Peg Kerlin Mrs Catherine Easter Mrs Harriet Reeder and Dr and Mrs Kirkpatrick of Delphi Mr and Mrs Jim Price and Mr and Mrs George Price of Lafayette The event took place at the Club Charity Ball in Hollywood.
