Boy Scout Week Events Planned Downtown

February marks the 54th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America with a week of activities in Riley Park. Highlights include a February 8 swim at Bunker Hill AFB an inter patrol first aid contest February 15 a winter camp-out February 22 and an all day hike February 29 led by Bob Quinn. Scouts to attend church in uniform and wear uniform to school one day. Meetings Saturdays at 2:30 at the Scout Cabin Don Moore is Scoutmaster Jim McKinley assistant.

Mr and Mrs Hubert Clifford and Father David Clifford of Anderson attended ordination ceremonies in St Marys Cathedral Lafayette last Saturday. Rev Patrick Hession of Lafayette and Rev Charles Richards of Louisville Kentucky were ordained to the Holy Priesthood.

Atkinsones Buy Zook Property in South Delphi Move

Mr and Mrs Fred Atkinson purchased the Mrs Myrtle Zook property in South Delphi and moved there from the Earl Smith tenant house west of town. Mr and Mrs Eugene Hall of Komomo spent Sunday evening with Mr and Mrs Paul Julien. Their son Ed died recently suffered a broken collar bone in a fall on the ice.

Benjamin named vice president and data processing manager

David W. Benjamin a former West Lafayette resident is appointed vice president and manager of data processing for Citizens National Bank of Decatur Illinois. He holds a B S in engineering and an M S in economics from Purdue University. His wife Patricia Brewer from Delphi is a Western College for Women graduate. They have two children Scott eight and Lisa five. Benjamin previously worked as a data processing consultant for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the Midwest Stock Exchange.

Mrs Kerlin and Mrs Johnson Host Tea for Out‑of‑Town Guests

Mrs William S Kerlin and Mrs Myron Johnson entertained at tea at the Kerlin home Friday for Mrs Abner Bowen’s visiting sisters. Honor guests were Mrs Henry Abels, Mrs John Ruckel, Mrs Robert Scaife, and Mrs Margaret Green of Springfield Illinois. Mrs Green will stay in Delphi for an indefinite visit with her sister. Presiding at the tea table were Mrs Howard Bradshaw, Mrs Joseph T Ives, Mrs Henry Eaton and Miss Hilda Bowen.

McCain Chosen for Indiana University Practice Teaching

Frederick McCain of Mishawaka Penn High School joins 218 Indiana University practice teachers in an eight week statewide program. The group will teach in 77 high schools and 37 cities across Indiana offering subjects from mathematics and chemistry to foreign languages and art. Each participant earns five to eight hours of college credit and is supervised by veteran teachers.

A letter received February 4 informs the Superintendent that Delphi High School has been approved by the State Department of Public Instruction for a 6 3 3 organization. Junior high comprises grades 7 8 9 and senior high includes grades 10 11 12, enabling the change.

Kremer Elected Supervisor for Soil Water Dist

Jim Kremer a Deer Creek Township farmer was elected supervisor of Carroll County Soil and Water Conservation District at the annual meeting Friday at the REMC in Delph i. About 150 attended. Kremer succeeds Russell Jones honored for nine years of service. A grain marketing vs storage panel led by Purdue economist W E Farris discussed costs to handle and store grain and futures market use.

Juvenile arrests clear string of lake cabin break-ins

Three juveniles arrested after a Monday apprehension cleared 14 break-ins along the Tippecanoe River and Horseshoe Bend. Sheriff's reports describe vandalism, burglary, and stolen items including five guns, watches, gear, and a leather jacket.

A meeting of township trustees and assistants is scheduled for February 20 at 9:00 a.m. in the commissioners room to receive instructions on assessing. Carl Bro and Ralph Myers of the state tax board will conduct the meeting and provide guidance on 1964 assessing.

County commissioners at their regular meeting appoint Ralph Rohrabaugh as court house custodian for one year. They had previously contracted with his assistant Freeman Switzer.

Birch Bayh Birthday Party Honors Senator at Indianapolis

Sixty people from Carroll County attended the Birch Bayh birthday party at Cable Tabernacle in Indianapolis. Bayh was honored for selection as one of ten outstanding young men in 1963 by the National Jaycees and celebrated his 36th birthday. Over two hours of entertainment featured Barry Sullivan as MC, with Janet Leigh and Vic Damone among the performers and the Purdue Glee Club. Favors included small birthday cakes and souvenir programs with pictures of Kennedy, Johnson, and Bayh’s life.

Fire destroys shed at Tom Ives property on West North Street

Fire of undetermined origin destroyed a storage shed on the west side of the Tom Ives property along West North Street early Sunday evening. Bob Pauley, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Pauley, is very ill at General Hospital in Elkhart. Pauley’s wife and children live in New Castle and he was in Elkhart on business when stricken.

Woods earns spot in Indiana All State Band

Wanda Woods, daughter of Mr and Mrs Warren Woods, junior in the local high school, is one of two baritone saxophonists selected from thirteen applicants by the Indiana Band Masters Association for its All State Band. Delmar Bailey Beaten by Hoods in Barnyard Attack

Delmar Bailey former Republican County Chairman and Madison Township farmer was released from St Elizabeth Hospital after a severe beating in his barnyard by two unknown assailants on Tuesday. He had earlier received two threatening phone calls and notified the sheriff, then was escorted to a basketball game.

Delphi Students Attend The Crucible Play in Indianapolis

Twenty six Delphi students including cast members for the next production and members of Mr. Morris Buck's speech class traveled to Butler University's Clowes Theatre in Indianapolis to see a professional performance of The Crucible. Quinn Honored by Johns Manville for Top Sales

Robert Quinn owner of Log Roofing Company was named to the Presidents Club of Johns Manville in Indianapolis on January 27. He received a pin and certificate from Arthur Bergman district manager of Chicago. Quinn and Jim Tomlinson were the only two in Indiana to earn the 1963 honor. Miss Sara Johnson Recovering After Auto Accident

Miss Sara Jane Johnson of Delphi daughter of Mr and Mrs Myron Johnson suffers a neck injury in a car crash in St Paul Minnesota. She is recovering at friends home and will be in traction for at least two weeks.
