U S 421 to Replace Highway 39 Across Indiana

Indiana readers report Highway 39 will become U S 421 with dual state and U S markings until July 1. Route runs from Madison to Michigan City via Frankfort Monticello and stops at US 24 and 43, then into Michigan City. A runaway freight incident near Deer Creek Bridge required help from a Lafayette steam engine to clear the line. Community notes cover March of Dimes drives, Easter dates, fingerprinting for auxiliary police, a ring engagement, parking-meter surveys, and stray hogs in local classifieds.
