Telegraphic notice reports Lt Col James O’Brien, 44, wounded in the Bukin Hotel Brink blast in Saigon last Wednesday. He arrived in Vietnam December 3 and later needed no further hospital care. His wife and son remain in Germany as family.
Carroll Telephone Co and 106 Indiana companies filed tariffs with the Public Service Commission of Indiana showing intrastate rate cuts. Nighttime calls after 8 PM and Sunday rates drop to 40 cents or less for three minutes of station to station calls, with all day Sunday service and 6 to 8 PM reductions on weekdays.
Cecilia Fowler hosted a holiday party for teens with dancing games and refreshments. The column notes carolers, gifts for high schoolers, and plans for return to school including basketball victories and a My Fair Lady listing. Visitors Patricia of Bogota and Gracilia Tascon of Cali stay with Louise Fowler at Beech Grove Our Lady of Grace Academy.
A family dinner marks the golden wedding anniversary of Albert W. Smith and Lida Simon of Yeoman. They wed January 2, 1915, in Moorefield West Virginia. Surviving family includes daughter Mrs. John J. Bowmen and son Garnette L. Sethie, with four grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
The Burrows Community Club met December 28 for social hour and officer elections. 1965 officers are Dwayne Reeves president Earl Watson vice president Mrs Dwayne Reeves secretary treasurer Steve Reynolds three year board term with Bob Brown and Elbert Brewer. Next meeting January 30 1965 at 7 00 P M includes round and square dancing.
Delphi resident Lee Nape was arrested by City Patrolman Jake Coghill after running a red light at Main and Washington. He appeared before J.P. Lee Stone, paid a $10 fine plus $17.75 in costs, and had his driver's license suspended for sixty days.
At the final City Council meeting of 1964 the Flora Chrysler-Plymouth bid won with a trade-in of 926 dollars for a Plymouth. Only bid received. Gasoline contracts for 1965: Heyde Oil offered regular pump price. Bassett and Talbert bid 2c off pump with no discount during gas war. All claims allowed.
Mrs. Barbara Hall announces Mona Hall of Delphi as the bride elect a Delphi High School graduate class of 1985 and fiance a 1932 graduate now in the Air Force in Texas. Mr and Mrs Harold H Hayden announce Linda Marie to John Henry Gingrich of Delphi with Linda a Delphi High senior and Gingrich a National Guard lieutenant and former OT School graduate. A September wedding is planned.
The Citizen recaps 1964 in Delphi and Carroll County with notable firsts and events. Wayne VanSickle becomes mayor, new clerk treasurer Jesse Patrick and a full council sworn in. major snow, school and courthouse slowdowns, numerous local shifts in politics, business openings, community milestones, sports highs and civic awards across the year.
The Delphi Lions name Kathryn Lostutter as this week’s Cheer Club member. Mrs Lostutter, patient at Home Hospital in Room 117, was admitted December 19 after a fall at her home. Lions urge readers to send cards and greetings.
Pete Hamm of Rossville and Gabe Owens of Indianapolis will call the New Year’s Eve square dance in Delphi at the new Armory starting at 9 P.M. A midnight supper, dancing, and entertainment follow. Tickets at the door. no alcohol. Couples should bring covered dishes and table service.
Clarence Hays of Delphi rural route one observed their fortieth wedding anniversary on Sunday December 20. The Rev. Marshall Stull Assembly of God minister hosted a dinner for the couple and their son Paul.
The obituary notes a 1899 marriage to Jennie Att with her death in 1931. The deceased was a member of Flora First Brethren Church. Survivors include two foster children Thelma Douglas of Flora and Lloyd Att of Tinley Park Illinois. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. See other deaths on page.
Delphi Community Schools announce a return to classes Monday January 4. the reopening includes Camden kindergarten. The School Board selects Bradshaw Insurance Agency as Agency of Record for the next three years.
Tickets for the Purdue Ag Fish Fry are $2.50 and must be reserved by January 15. The event, a stag affair, will be Friday January 22 at 11 45 AM with Governor elect Roger Branigan attending as part of a legislative briefing. Dale Easten county agent Carroll County handles reservations.
County Clerk Frank Wilcox reports licenses issued this week to Arnold Crowder and Jean Small. Larry Colgrove and Virginia Bogue. George Watts and Mary Hawn. William Dunk and Linda McCracken.
Mr and Mrs Edrie Parks and daughter Mrs Lonnie Woods visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs Quentin Orr in Sharpsville. Dr and Mrs John Quackenbush of Fort Rucker Alabama joined them for holidays with Mrs Quackenbushs parents. The Parks later called on Mr and Mrs Omar Ridnour in Kokomo where their holiday guests were Dr and Mrs Sam Coker and two Auburn Alabama daughters. Dr Coker is Dean at the State University of Auburns School of Pharmacology. Mrs Orr and Mrs Parks are sisters and Mrs Ridnour is also a Parks sister.
Mr and Mrs Charles Geheb and family spent the holidays in Marshall Illinois. They visited parents Mr and Mrs Charles Geheb and Mr and Mrs Dorsey Reasor the Olen Jennings family Mrs Parker Davison and Mr and Mrs Forest Bowen of Chicago.
The Delphi C Y O of St Joseph Church entertained 30 school children from St Joseph's at a Sunday evening party on December 20. A program and games were enjoyed and each child received treats.
State Troopers report a burglary at the Charles Robertson residence southwest of Burlington on Monday evening December 28. Missing items include a large load of groceries from the freezer, Christmas gifts, and $10.00.
Guests of Mr and Mrs Reed Gushwa for Christmas day included Mr and Mrs Necdet Ucoluk and sons Kaan and Tune from Istanbul Turkey. Mr Ucoluk is a Purdue student. Also visiting were Mr and Mrs Kenneth Mears and their family at the Chalmers area home for the Gushwas and for Mr and Mrs J D Scott and sons Jim and Jay.
