Trustees reduced per pupil costs across Carroll County eight high schools for the latest year, with Delphi at 95.09 dollars and most townships showing savings. Only Jackson and Monroe townships increased costs while others reported substantial reductions due to gross income tax returns and tighter fund management.
Several young Democrats from Delphi attended the White County Young Voters Club meeting Friday night in Monticello. Dick Heller, secretary to Lt Governor Clifford Townsend, gave the address. Attendees from Delphi included Robert L. Hanna Gilbert Bailey Harold Brewer Lucile Brewer and Edith Baum. William Barr of Chalmers is president of the White County club.
Miss Pauline Fouts of Carrollton Township and Miss Lois McCain of Delphi announce joint recitals by their pupils at Wheeling Presbyterian Church. Performances start at 7 30 p m on Saturday August 25 and Wednesday August 29 with piano and violin pieces and cello selections featured.
B F Wingard was fined one dollar and costs in Logansport city court Thursday morning on a charge of intoxication. He was arrested Wednesday evening.
Booster Committee secretary William B. Smith says the drawings start at 2 30 each Saturday, not 3 00. Any notice listing an 8 00 booster time in this paper is incorrect.
Members of St Joseph Catholic church thank all who aided in their annual picnic and chicken dinner which drew many visitors from out of town and proved a social and financial success.
John Vogel of near Pyrmont won a Crosley Shelvador refrigerator from the St Joseph Church raffle after his ticket number matched the drawing. The event drew local donors and beneficiaries from the parish community.

Dr E M Cobb known for illustrated Holy Land travel lectures will teach at the Cadle Tabernacle Bible Conference and evangelistic campaign opening Sunday. Other speakers include Dr J C Massee Dr E A Marshall Dr D Lee Andrews and Dr Barney Antrobus with musicians from across the state aiding the event.
County auditor J. L. Whiteman presents a budget with a general fund levy just over 26 cents and old age pensions at about 13 cents. The county council will review the figures on September 4 and may adjust them before sending the plan to the county tax adjustment board. The old age pensions levy rises about 8 cents from last year while the general fund levy is reduced notably from last year’s request.
Sherman Minton, Democratic candidate for senator, will be the principal speaker at the Fifth Annual Miami County Democratic Picnic in Peru city park. Gov Paul V. McNutt and Rep Glen Griswold join. program runs afternoon to evening with a 6 30 basket lunch and open invite to other counties.
Miss Revie Todd, long time home economics music and art teacher in Carrollton township schools, resigns due to ill health. Trustee Harley Mummert announces her departure and Mrs Esther Huffer, with 12 years teaching experience, is named her successor.
Reed Allen and Helen Lucile Allen were married Wednesday August 15 at Grace A. B. parsonage in Lafayette by Rev. M. E. Reed. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Allen. The couple will reside on a farm near Delphi.

Sunday’s scheduled game against the Kentucky Black Devils was called when they did not appear. Templeton provided opposition as Delphi won 4 to 1 behind Knitter who had 3 runs and 2 hits. Dukes and Million formed the Delphi battery while Griffith and Suralt kept Templeton in check.
Clem Shauver of Paris Illinois uncovered a blueberry granite stone axe embedded near a sulphur spring on the Miller game preserve while relic hunting. He said it was the most nearly perfect axe among those found by Miller.
Company G Delphi National Guard returns from Fort Knox encampment with the Chaplain's Trophy for highest points in religious and recreational activity. They earned 42 points in track and field and 72 total, with other wins in baseball boxing and athletic events. Long service crosses and medals awarded. marksman badges tally fourteen. Trophy on display at Quick and Clifford Clothing store.

Vernon Payne of near Burlington sues Abraham L. Crecraft for 10000 dollars alleging malicious prosecution. Payne was arrested after Crecraft accused him of stealing and selling wheat. the charge was dismissed by Justice Willis M. Robert for lack of evidence. Attorneys: Robert L. Hanna and A. D. Bishop for Payne.
Bill Perigo former Delphi high school and Western State College basketball star becomes coach at Marklesville High School near Anderson Indiana. He takes the new post after a playing career noted in Indiana basketball circles.
Mrs. Quinnie Dubes, 63, widow, died at 7 30 am Wednesday at the family home between Americus and Colburn. Survived by daughter Mrs Ray Elliott, son Lee Dubes, foster son C R Wolf, two sisters Delphine Dukes and Eugene Shutter, two halfsisters Mary Custer and Lawrence Stipp. Body taken to Grimm and Son funeral home and then to residence. Funeral Friday at Colburn AB Church with Rev Virgil Garner officiating. Interment Colburn Lutheran Cemetery.
Funeral services were held Monday for Delbert E Lantz 61 who died Saturday at the family home after a four month illness. A lifelong resident of the community he is survived by his widow two brothers Thomas of Galveston Grover of Kentland and a sister Mrs Jennie Wilburn of Logansport. The body rested at Blythe and Sons funeral home and then at the family home before the services. Interment followed in Cedarville cemetery. Band Concert Tonight.
Kathryn McDowell assumed management of the Elmwood Grocery on State Road 25, one block west of Baum's greenhouse, Wednesday morning. She brings many years of clerical experience from Delphi groceries. The renovated store offers groceries cigars candies and more and will stay open evenings and holidays.
The Citizen offers a one dollar subscription that ends August 31 with eight days left to subscribe. Since August 1 hundreds of county residents and readers in Indiana and elsewhere have signed up. The Citizen promotes its value as a traditional local institution and urges subscribers to act before the deadline.
Carroll County taxpayers posted $3,293,083.78 in income for the eight months of 1933. Delphi reported $1,074,012.63 and Flora $755,673.04. Total taxes by unit were county $16,609.88, Delphi $6,685.00, and Flora $4,376.97. Delphi residents paid the highest per capita tax at $3.02.
Abraham C. Gates Goldin Fouts and Wilbur P. Gates sue to enjoin their 74 year old mother Amanda Gates from selling six hundred acres to the Peabody Lumber Co of Columbia City alleging she is incapacitated and the contract is void.
Charles Hoshaw of Delphi wins a free trip to the Chicago World’s Fair. He travels with 24 Loganport carriers from the Pharos Tribune, staying four days in Chicago. A special bus takes the group, with Mrs. S. O. Berman, John Dunn, and Joseph Long directing the trip.
The annual trustee s picnic was held yesterday evening at the Oakdale Dam. Twenty seven people including seven trustees attended the cooperative supper and social hour.
The case of James D. Pitzer versus J. F. Dotson seeks damages for killing a dog and has been appealed from Justice of the Peace George J. Busteed to the Carroll County Circuit Court.
Rev Benjamin Rist will attend graduation exercises at the University of Chicago tomorrow as his son Rev Martin Rist earns the Doctor of Philosophy degree in a convocation ceremony.
Elless and Orrs Drug Store offers a selection of canning spices for home preservation. Shoppers may find mustard seed pepper sauce celery salt and other flavorings to stock shelves for the upcoming harvest season. Local customers are invited to inquire at the counter.
In a letter to The Delphi Citizen Henry T. Rainey praised George R. Durgan for a two session career as an Indiana congressman. Rainey found Durgan supported House leadership on most votes except soldiers related and noted his role in reciprocal tariff framing and farm relief.
Funeral services for Rev. E. C. Wells of Delphi were held Saturday from his son Mayor Yanus Wells’s home. Clergy from local and nearby churches officiated and paid tribute. Interment followed in the Mason ic cemetery beside his wife, with out of town mourners listed.
Lawrence Corey of Monticello and Mrs. Margaret Afflis second district chairmen will entertain county chairmen and vice chairmen at a 1 PM luncheon at the Sportsman Hotel in Monticello. Congressman George R. Durgan will be honor guest.
Bitler Armstrong has been named to head the Young Republican club of the county. Mrs. William Frazer was appointed vice director. The appointments were made by Jesse Clawson, chairman of the Republican central committee and Mrs. L. H. Smith, vice chairman.
