Carroll county merchants adopt new county code
Last minute state NRA directives led Carroll county merchants to amend the local code governing shop hours. Beginning Monday August 14 retail stores may operate 7 30 a m to 6 p m weekdays and 7 a m to 10 p m Saturdays. A seven member committee, led by Delmar Galbreth and Stanley Jones, will hear amendments and concessions.

Indiana Guard Unit Heads to Camp Knox for Summer Encampment
Captain William Mahanna and the 151st Infantry Co G of the Indiana National Guard from this city entrained Sunday for Fort Knox Kentucky for a two week summer encampment. About four thousand Indiana guardsmen are in camp. The local unit traveled to Indianapolis over the Monon at 2:27 Sunday morning, with several special trains carrying the units. They will return home Sunday August 20.

Young People's Chorus to Perform at Flora Farm Bureau Picnic

Gypsy Tour Draws Motorcyclists to Ideal Beach

Smith Sentenced After Petit Larceny Plea
Herman Smith pleaded guilty to petit larceny in circuit court. Robbers Steal Camden Post Office Safe
Robbers pried open the Camden post office door and carried off the safe in the early morning. Shelton arraigned in circuit court on burglary charge
Charles Shelton of Herrin Illinois 27 was arraigned Friday on a second degree burglary charge. His bond was set at 1000 dollars and he remained in sheriff custody until bond was met. Officials accuse him of raiding school houses this summer stealing typewriters and other property affecting schools in White Carroll and Tippecanoe counties since spring. Shelton furnished bond Friday and was released.

Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus Tour Heads Through Virginia and West Virginia
The Hagenbeck-Wallace circus travels 6095 miles since starting in Peru in April and will perform today in Stanton Virginia and Saturday in Martinsburg West Virginia. A 228 mile leg is planned for Saturday night and Sunday ending in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Monday.

Local man sets cross country driving record
George Garrison of this city, special representative for Remington Arms Co., drove 2635 miles from Delphi to Olympia Washington in five days in a 1931 Chevrolet. He traveled only by day, averaged 50 to 60 mph, used 119 gallons of gas at $26.50, and had one tire puncture with no engine trouble.
