Carroll County farmers received about 200000 in Corn-Hog checks this week with over 1500 checks issued to landowners from all townships. First payments on around 1200 contracts have been distributed, with nearly all checks delivered by Thursday noon.
A daughter named Donabelle was born Monday at the Julien home near Delphi to Mr and Mrs Paul Julien.
The photograph shows Cyrus Stoner 91 a Civil War veteran from Jefferson township near Attica. His daughter Mrs Schock and her son Orvel C Schock Carroll County Assessor and Democratic chair reveal five generations including 3 month old Wayne Lewis Duncan and Mrs Maurice Duncan of Fort Wayne.
The Citizen offers a one dollar subscription bargain through August 31. The drive is meeting unusual success with Old Settlers Day as the campaign climax on Saturday. Genevieve Wise and J Truman Plank wed Sunday at the Leatherwood farm home of the bride’s parents five miles east of Delphi. Rev H Hugo of Rockfield officiated with Miss Mary Cohee of Delphi as bridesmaid and Manford Wolf of Indianapolis as best man. Music by the bride’s sister Mrs Louise Garrison. The couple plan to reside on a farm two miles north of Camden after the ceremony.
Wayne Coy acting for Gov McNutt sells The Delphi Citizen to Mark Gray of the Indianapolis Daily Commercial and Keith Johns of the State Democratic Central Committee and The Hoosier Sentinel. The newspaper will continue indefinitely under current management.
The Kentucky Black Devils will oppose the Delphi Merchants on the local diamond August 19. Fans view this game as a season highlight. The Merchants beat the Yellow Cubs 2 to 1 with Knitter and Wingard scoring the winning runs.
These farmers did not go to market but signed government contracts to reduce corn acreage and lower hog numbers. Lined up are Bert Honan, chair of the county corn hog group, Frank Heddrick the treasurer, Berlin Rogers, Charles Flora, June Smith, with Dewey Zinn, J A Vent, Bob VanNatta, Ervil Aldridge and Adamstown among the standing members.
John McKee state master and O R Hall of Purdue University will keynote the Grange picnic joining Carroll Tippecanoe Cass and Clinton counties at Delyi city park on Wednesday August 22. Program begins 10 00 am with a basket dinner at noon followed by two addresses and a baseball game as the main afternoon feature. Public is invited with special Farm Bureau invitations extended. Robert Gamble is Carroll County Granges president.
All farmers urged to attend the Farmers' Union mass meeting Saturday evening at the courthouse. E. E. Kennedy national secretary will give the principal address on the National Bankruptcy Act and farm problems. Kennedy sponsored farm legislation in the last session of Congress.
Mrs. Roxie Varner of Danville Illinois will open a new dress shop named the Warner Style Shop on Saturday. The store occupies the former Hoover Jewelry Store at 209 South Washington Street and offers an exclusive line of dresses and ladies ready to wear at modest prices. Mrs. Warner is a graduate of the Kester Tailoring System and has many years of managerial experience in this type of shop.
The Carroll County Tax Adjustment Board will meet September 17 to adjust levies and budgets. Six members appointed by Judge E E Pruitt are William F Riley Tippecazee township. Lawrence M Pletcher Deer Creek township. Scott Clark Monroe. Robert E Davidson Deer Creek. James M Harrison Jackson. and Wm F Barber Burlington. County Council elected John Kerlin Rock Creek township as the seventh member.
A marriage license was issued Monday to Doyle R. Reagon of Frankfort and Mary Elizabeth Hufford of Delphi R. R. 6. They are the son and daughter of listed parents. The Citizen office remains open late Saturday night.
Lon Goldsberry Jr., four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Herley Goldsberry of Lafayette, was struck by an automobile driven by William Acheson of Delphi near the canal bridge. He suffered severe cuts and bruises to the head and shoulders but his injuries were not considered serious after medical attention. The child and his mother were visiting Mrs. John Cain, the sister of Mrs. Goldsberry.
Last rites were held for S. K. Leiter, father of Flora undertaker William J. Leiter, at Harrison funeral home in Kewanna. He died Sunday in Warren Ohio after an operation. He leaves Clyde Leiter of Detroit and daughters Mrs. Lucy Guyer Fort Wayne and Mrs. Marie Bott Remington, plus his son in Flora. Dr. Roger Hanna plans a Delta Phi vacation next week. A son Richard Donald was born Sunday to Mr and Mrs Troy Quinn.

Miss Margaret Sieber daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Sieber of Delphi area married Harold Bowker of Fort Wayne in Fort Wayne on Saturday. Mrs Bowker has worked in Fort Wayne for two years and they plan to reside there.
W. H. Deeter returns to Delphi and announces the Reliable Coal Co will reopen at its old offices on 210 W. Main St around August 15. The news confirms a continued local fuel supply.
Ed Parks of Sharpsville will succeed R A Shuey as manager of the Leavell and Bates Loan Co in town. Parks and his wife and son will move to Delphi soon. The county board of education set the Annual Trustees Picnic for August 21 at Oakdale Dam.
Logansport golfers defeated Delphi 48 to 5 on Sunday afternoon. Paul Lostutter led Delphi with 75 over par 10 while Carding led Logansport with a 73.
Miss Oma Miller has been appointed matron of the county farm by the county board of commissioners. She will succeed Mrs. Eva Pearson.
A son named Jerry was born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crone Thursday evening, adding a new family member to the Crone household.
Delphi gears up to welcome the largest Old Settlers Day crowd yet with an unusual program of attractions and a settlers meeting at the city park. A full day of activity is planned as the observance proceeds.
Kenneth Dilling an 18 year old near Yeoman and Morris Dyer 23 former Monticello barbers each received 1 to 10 year sentences in the Indiana Reformatory after pleading guilty to grand larceny. They admitted stealing seven guns from Frank Holloway near Yeoman on August 9 and led authorities to six guns found near Oakdale Dam.
Donnabelle Naylor of Burlington is one of fourteen Butler University upperclassmen awarded a scholarship for the 1934 35 school year. The faculty scholarship committee headed by Dean James W. Putnam announced the award. Naylor will be a senior at Butler in September.
Company G of the Delphi National Guard departed Sunday for a two week encampment at Camp Knox. The unit will follow a varied schedule of drill and recreation. Frank Brewer and Harold Leslie have been appointed cooks for the camp.
Doxie Moore the newly appointed coach at West Lafayette high school met the West Side football candidates at the school building last night. They outlined plans for issuing of suits and opening of practice sessions.
Mrs. Charles Bowen of Champaign Illinois will entertain a group of friends Friday evening in honor of her cousin Mary Louise Wason who will be married September 3.
A large crowd gathered at Delphi Presbyterian church to hear Rev. E P Day speak in his former charge. Rev Day and Mrs Day and their son Charles are visiting daughter and sister Mrs Paul Quick and family.
The renowned clown Uncle Harry LaPearl will be a star performer at Old Settlers Day. He is famous as a headline attraction in major circuses across the country, pictured here in a characteristic pose.
