The Worsted Stocking

The Stranded Wife and the Safe Rope Ahead

In a tale of peril and faith, a wife prays as a rope hoists the iron secure, restoring hope for her husband. He gains courage and safety, the family returns home, giving thanks for divine protection and renewed life ahead. A later vignette follows a reader’s scene at a primary school, contrasting charity and class with a sharp voice from a polite observer.

Selected Poetry. BY K. G. RIGGS

Verses lament earthly beauty and joy, noting how beauty fades with grief and time. The poem speaks of noble hearts enduring pain, hidden sorrows, and the longing for a world of eternal joy and peace beyond this troubled shore.

Dictionary of Wit and Morals From a 19th Century Page

A playful glossary of moral fables and satirical definitions with entries like Doctor, Editor, and Fear, linking everyday terms to humorous or rueful lessons. The piece weaves humorous portraits of human foibles and social behavior and ends with a jagged critique of pedantry and popular rhetoric.
