Public Act Amends Salaries for Government Clerks 1854
An act amends pay scales for clerks in the civil and diplomatic service for the year ending June 30 1854. It sets annual salaries for clerks by class 1200 1400 and 1600 dollars and extends second class pay to other federal clerks. Additional increases apply to post office staff messengers laborers and guards and to various offices in Washington. The act becomes effective July 1 1853 and appropriations follow through June 30 1854.
