A Deer Creek Methodist Episcopal Sabbath School excursion to Salem New Jersey aboard the steamboat Zephyr led by Captain Waspesutt carried over four hundred participants with teachers and friends. The trip included a street procession in Salem, cheers for Salem, refreshment on board, and a return to land around 11 PM.

Child found in road aided by stranger amid town pursuit
A German father, drunk and enraged, attacked Mr Rash over a child found lying in the road a short distance from town. Rash carried the unconscious child to town with help from others, the father following wielding a large knife. The child recovered after care from Dr Mortis and was sent home. The incident ended with a severe beating of Rash at the Washington Hotel as self defense.

The Kent County Agricultural Society met in Dover on Tuesday August 1 with the President in the chair. A premium list was presented and committees were appointed to select premiums and to manage printing and the annual exhibition and plowing match. The society adjourned to the next quarterly meeting on the second Tuesday in October.
