In Albany Georgia two Negro churches, Mount Olive Baptist at Sasser and Mount Mary Baptist near Albany, were burned on Sunday. Jackie Robinson agreed to serve as honorary chairman, donated 100 dollars, and urged support from boxers Archie Moore and Floyd Patterson. FBI agents investigated an attack by a white farmer on agents and bystanders. agent Paul Mohr suffered a minor injury. Police escorted Robinson’s motorcade with over 1,260 demonstrators arrested in nine months.
Official Visit OSLO AP Dirk Stikker Secretary General of NATO arrived in Oslo Sunday for a two day official visit. He said he would hold general talks with Norwegian government officials on all NATO problems and that the question of Cuba would probably be raised.
Annastrai Strain 28 says she aimed a12 gauge shotgun at her husband Robert Strain after years of alleged burglary and abuse. The couple, married seven years, had two children asleep as the weapon discharged in their living room during a dispute after Mrs Strain's birthday celebration. She held without bail on murder charges.
Washington AP Representatives of the Chicago and North Western Railroad and its striking telegraphers meet acting Labor Secretary W. Willard Wirtz in a bid to end a 2 day walkout. Mediator Francis A. ONeill joins as progress is reported but no quick settlement is seen.
An 11 year old boy named Jimmy McKain alerted police after finding 19 year old inmate Donald Montgomery, who had escaped from Butler County jail during a stay for an arson death case. Montgomery, seeking transfer to Pittsburgh, was recaptured without resistance near the woods after night on a stump.
Harrisburg AP reports three Pennsylvania streams suffered fish kills over the weekend. In Lackawanna River at Simpson 40 000 four inch minnows and 5 000 six to 12 inch suckers were lost. Trout Creek in Northampton and Lehigh counts and the Allegheny River from Freeport to Cheswick also saw kills. Authorities link Trout Creek to plating waste from Allentown GE plant. Allegheny death toll blamed on acid mine drainage from heavy rains washing strip mines. No dollar losses yet.
Paris AP reports President Charles de Gaulle back home after a six day state visit to West Germany. He met Cabinet ministers on return night and was greeted by large crowds. He urged close military economic and political cooperation between France and Germany. De Gaulle also met West German President Heinrich Luebke and Chancellor Konrad Adenauer at Ludwigsburg Castle near Stuttgart.
In New York AP interview poet Robert Frost recounts meeting with Khrushchev in the Soviet Union. Frost says the Soviet leader believed the U.S. would not engage in war, while stressing the danger of liberalism and hostilities around the West. He reads his poetry and discusses democracy.
A chaotic scene at Bellfive Country Club where pranksters dumped soap into the pool. Young swimmers and a coach react as suds flood the water and books are read aloud, with one coach lamenting potential blame.

NASA funds first test flight of Stratoiscope sized to Mars study. A long ballooned telescope will be assembled at Perkin Elmer, parts shipped to Texas, then rise nearly 5,514 feet with cameras and motors keeping a fixed view while Dr. Martin Schwarzschild of Princeton pursues views of Venus dots and Mars canyons.
John Church of Bryn Mawr was found hanged in his garage in Gladwyne. Montgomery County coroner Dr. Jon C. Simpson ruled it a suicide, noting Church had been ill and mentally low in spirits.
Algeria’s Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Ben Bella and Army Col. Houari Boumedienne emerged as the nation’s rulers, moving to dominate the first legislature. Boumedienne’s 5000 Communist-equipped troops entered Algiers, ending Wilaya No. 4’s guerrilla occupation, greeted by cheering crowds and a violated demilitarization pact.
