Santa Claus fears heights on blimp ride

Miami policeman Daniel Cabrera dressed as Santa Claus surprised 1,500 children at the Goodyear blimp’s winter home on the MacArthur Causeway, declaring he is deathly afraid of heights. He then headed to Sunland Training Center by helicopter to visit 800 more kids.

Doctors urge veto of strict abortion bill in Pennsylvania

In Harrisburg the Pennsylvania Medical Society urged Gov. Milton Shapp to veto a harsh antiabortion measure. They argued it is medically too restrictive and should permit abortions to save the mother’s life or in cases of rape or incest, with required documentation and three-doctor concurrence. The bill passed both houses easily, and Shapp, while not pro abortion, called it unenforceable and asked for further study. If not returned, he must decide by next Friday.

Philadelphia official found guilty of conspiring for kickbacks

Democratic Philadelphia official Maurice S. Osser was found guilty by a federal jury of nine counts including mail fraud conspiracy and obstruction of justice for accepting secret commissions from a printing contractor during his 16 years in office.
