Walter J. Marm Jr., a 25 year old Army officer from Washington Pennsylvania, is approved by President Johnson for the Medal of Honor after single handedly destroying a machine gun bunker near Chu Pong Mountain on November 14 1965. Marm’s action saved troops and left his platoon intact though he was wounded making a decisive stand. He trained at Duquesne University and later joined the U S Army Infantry Ranger branch at Fort Benning.
