Auritt challenges Hazel on DA conviction rate record

Democratic challenger Jon J. Auritt accuses Incumbent Delaware County District Attorney Frank Hazel of a lower conviction rate than his predecessor. Auritt cites a 14 page press release comparing 76 percent under Stephen Sen to 57 percent under Hazel from 1976 to present. Hazel says Auritt distorts figures and notes an earlier claim of under 40 percent was corrected. A lawsuit over data requests was settled in a closed session before Judge John V. Diggins.

Mamie Eisenhower Dies at Walter Reed Center

Mrs Mamie Eisenhower widow of President Eisenhower died peacefully in her sleep at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She would have been 83 in two weeks and had been hospitalized since September 25 for a stroke. Physicians attributed her death at 1 35 a.m. to heart failure. Mamie Doud Eisenhower was endowed with many virtues and public service.
