Swarthmorean faces weak case over antique parts
Swarthmore defendant Mrs. Anne Ody, 106 Cornell Avenue, was arraigned on July 12 for allegedly removing antique auto parts from 112 Rutgers Avenue. Testimony by Brooke Cottman claimed parts valued at about 3000 dollars were taken during a clean up. Ody denied knowledge, saying she only cleared debris and garbage. Judge Joseph Gessler bound her over for trial, noting the commonwealth’s case seems weak but will proceed to jury. Cottman and Edward Coslett dispute authority over the property and Coslett’s involvement in a condo project and building permit plans. A letter from Coslett claimed Ody misinterpreted instructions and had no authority beyond grass cutting. Police Sgt. James Davis corroborated Ody’s denial.
