U S moves to head off nuke terror
The State Department quietly plans to prevent terrorists from stealing fissionable material and building an atomic bomb. Deputy director David Mabry said officials are deeply involved in contingency planning and stress the threat is serious. Experts at a closed symposium warned that terrorists could acquire the knowledge to weaponize nuclear material and blackmail nations.

Reagan cancels July 4 vacation to stay for Hezbollah hostage crisis
Washington AP Reagan canceled his planned 10 day Fourth of July vacation at his California ranch to remain in Washington and monitor the TWA hostage crisis in Lebanon. Speakes said the move follows a review of the current situation in Lebanon where 40 Americans remain in captivity after the June 14 hijacking of TWA 847. The president’s stay is not a sign of a quick resolution and does not reflect a change in his presidency.
