SEPTA Grids for Rail Strike Ties Up Philadelphia Commute
A looming strike by Amtrak and Conrail could halt most SEPTA suburban routes. Six of thirteen regional lines use Amtrak or Conrail tracks and control towers would be unmanned. Amtrak and Conrail crews wage a long running contract dispute with talks resuming after a stalled session. If imposed, Amtrak service would be suspended, affecting about 30,000 riders daily on the Northeast Corridor. SEPTA plans to distribute notices and suggest bus or alternate routes.
