Homebuyers face decade of difficulty say savings group
A UPI report from the U S League of Savings Associations warns first time buyers aged 3 to 35 face ongoing affordability gaps due to scarce money and rising mortgage costs. The study notes home prices outpacing incomes and a drop in first time buyers from 36 percent in 1977 to 13.5 percent in 1981, with funds costs rising from 7.4 to 10.9 percent and mortgage rates climbing to 11 percent-plus.
