Sun Co hearing postponed over underground cavern safeguards

A Delaware County Court hearing between Sun Co and Marcus Hook officials was indefinitely delayed awaiting new safety controls for an underground butane cavern. The cavern leaked last January triggering an explosion that forced over 40 families from their homes. Borough officials led by Mayor Weldon asked that the cavern remain closed until regulators confirm there is no danger. The postponement follows Sun Co plan to install improvements after meeting with their attorney Cramp. A state bill also seeks broader regulatory oversight of petrochemical caverns.
