Dr. John Philip McGarvey rector of Trinity Episcopal Church since 1945 will observe the 25th anniversary of his ordination with an 8 pm service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Overbrook. Bishop Oliver J. Hart will preach and honor three other clergymen ordained with him at Holy Apostles Philadelphia.
Young members of the First Baptist Church of Aston will present a special Children’s Day program Sunday morning on the shared steps. The program begins at 9 30 and features a trumpet solo by Dennis Krause and numbers by the junior choir. The boys and girls will also perform in the morning and evening worship services.
Mr and Mrs Frank C Erwin and Mrs Julis Fliscar will direct a vacation church school at St Matthew's Lutheran Church from June 17 to 28. Parents may register children 8 30 to 9 20 a m on June 17.
Newtown Square parishioners were listed as new members at the Presby terian Church. Names include Mr and Mrs William R Braeford, 4816 Florida Ave and several others with addresses in Ridgefield Road Upper Darby and Bayard Ave. Also baptized were Richard Ashman Amie MacKay Beverly Parker Bonnie Bougon Judith Bougon Delbert Vannicolo. Vacation church school runs June 4 to July 3 with director Mrs William McConnell.
Mes ah Lutheran Church senior confirmation class from Newtown Square traveled to Gettysburg today on their annual field trip.
Aston Sun Valley High School held an awards night for seniors Friday. Linda La gates and Kenneth Garrett received the Penn Delco Education Award along with Paul Cass as McQuaide Award winner. Christine Carpenter won the Balfour Honor Key. Judy Brutsche Cheryl Bennett and Carl Walling earned Future Nurses and American Legion Awards respectively. Diane White claimed the Republican Women of Brookhaven Award and Lorraine Spain the Aston Township Federated Women’s Club Award. Ardele Johnson and Daniel Slipetsky received Carl Kingston Aston Lions Club Awards.
Lima The Methodist Church will mark Methodist Student Day at the 11 a.m. service. High school and college graduates will be honored with special recognition and a gift book from the Women’s Society of Christian Service. A special collection will support the Methodist Student Loan and Scholarship Fund.
Grace Park hosts the anniversary service marking the founding of Leiper Presbyterian Church. Dr. Herbert Graun of the Philadelphia Presbytery will speak at 11 am followed by a luncheon in the multi purpose room served by church women. Rev. James R. Barber is pastor.
Clergymen from eight county communities will join more than 200 delegates at the Lynd of Pennsylvania meeting in New Wilmington Pa June 11 13 to wrestle with the problem of decreasing church membership. Attending are Revs William A Zulker John T Galloway S Brooks Knowlton C Gordon Reynolds John B Roland John R Mecouch Kenneth C Stewart and John J D Cameron.
In June 1961 the Mater Dei Knights of Columbus council to dedicate its new building at 327 Newtown Street Road. The fire gutted the old hall on Nov. 22, and the 5 000 square foot structure offers a 250-seat ballroom and multiple rooms across three levels. Chartered in 1955 the council grew from 48 to over 300 members, mainly from Newtown Square and Brooma.

Bartkow is recalled as pastor of Faith Baptist Church after 13 years in which the church built a new edifice on Edgmont Avenue He will also serve on the Gospel Futherance Society advisory board and continue missionary work. Services continue at regular times withVacation Bible School planned for June and church programs including a Christian Service Brigade Stockade Battalion and Pioneer Girls. The church lists about 289 members with an average Sunday School of 200 pupils.
