Osprey funding advances in House defense bill
The House passed a defense spending bill providing 1.5 billion for next year including 755 million for the V-22 Osprey and 790 million in unspent funds. Boeing Helicopters of Ridley Township and Bell Helicopter-Textron of Fort Worth will build six new prototypes over two years. The measure freezes 27.9 million for VH-60 and VH-3D upgrades until the Osprey dispute is settled. Congress has until Aug. 4 to approve or reject the rescission of 790 million. Senators Arlen Specter and Curt Weldon and Defense Secretary Cheney met in a V 22 session at the Pentagon.
