Liquor reform delays hit Delaware County reps

In Harrisburg two Delaware County representatives clash with a Senate House conference committee over liquor control reform. Rep Steve Freind of Haverford protests the removal of his amendment for a state seal on all Pennsylvania liquor bottles. Rep Nick Micozzie of Upper Darby supports a drafting error delaying a bill that could let a municipality split from a parent town remain dry. Senate Bill 518 is involved.

Minors Bill Edges Through As Seals Debate Enters Stage

Harold Ellis reports in Harrisburg that Micozzie’s amendment on minor access to venues with liquor licenses survives. Critics say state seal controls will be costly and ineffective against liquor smuggling, noting enforcement can proceed without seals with new equipment from the LCB. The conference committee removed Micozzie’s split municipality provision from SB 518.

Suburban Philadelphia attorney John Ames Ballard will act as stand in vice presidential candidate with a running mate to be chosen later. Ballot petitions will be circulated at public events campuses and shopping centers to reach 75 000 to 100 000 signatures before the August 21 deadline. About 3 500 residents who contributed to the campaign will be asked to circulate petitions, with signatures open to any registered voter who does not sign another petition.
