Champion fights for custody of her child in court
Barbara Champion, 19, vows to continue seeking custody of the son she birthed at four days old after a two year legal battle. Delaware County and Superior Court rulings in 1962 stripped her parental rights, assigning custody to the adoptive parents. Champion, unemployed and living with her grandmother, asserts she is fighting for her child’s future amid ongoing petitions and appeals.

Attorney Stanley Slipakoff says he will appeal to the 3rd U.S. Circuit for a stay. The ruling last week found the 1982 law unconstitutional for age discrimination.
