Jury convicts Philadelphia man of rape and impersonating officer
A 23 year old prostitute testified that John Simpkins 38 of Philadelphia held a gun to her head and raped her on October 14 1990 after meeting at 6th and Morton Avenue in Chester. She said he flashed a badge and claimed to be a police officer before the assault. The jury deliberated about 35 minutes and convicted Simpkins on rape indecent assault and impersonating an officer. A second prostitute was reportedly abducted the same night by a man later connected to the case.
