Rain eases flood threat at Laurel Hill Dam

In Lawrenceburg Tennessee engineers say rain eased the pressure on an earthen dam threatening a 2 mile lake. Downstream residents prepared to evacuate if needed while a mobile radio network warned of changes as workers lower water and monitor seepage. Officials expect potential flooding could reach within minutes if the dam fails.

Buffalo Riots Ended by Job Promise and Calm Returns

In Buffalo New York after three days of racial disturbances police used tear gas and shotgun fire. The Citizens Council pledged 300 jobs and job centers to calm tensions and end the riot fallout. Senator Robert Kennedy along with 43 guests rode the rapids of the Colorado River as part of a Grand Canyon trip. The group traveled about 20 miles in four rafts and camped overnight roughly 19 miles from the climb’s start. The journey began Friday.
