A Sunday morning fire of unknown origin caused smoke damage to a basement apartment at 15 Morton Ave Ridley Park in an apartment medical building owned by Dr. William H. Erb. Fire Chief Thomas Turner said there were no injuries and no occupants were present when the fire started about 10 am and was under control within 10 minutes, with the apartment sustaining mainly smoke damage.

Woman 26 killed by car on Route 202
Linwood woman Rhonda Hazlett, 26, died after being struck while crossing Route 202 south of Smithbridge Road at 6 15 p m Sunday. A second and third vehicle ran over her as she lay in the left lane. The Wilmington Del driver Steven Batson 22 and Linwood residents William Pope 22 Karen M Heebner 26 were involved. Hazlett was pronounced dead at Riddle Hospital. Traffic was rerouted for two hours during police investigation.
