Delaware County Savings Bonds reach near twenty million in 1977

Delco’s W Thomas H MacNew reports county savings bonds sales totaled 18 904 738 in 1977 an increase over 1976. Total resident bond holdings estimated around 200 million. Local clubs churches and schools announce events and fundraisers across Ridley Township and surrounding areas. Activities include a Ping Pong marathon for Leukemia funds at Prospect Park Methodist Youth Fellowship, pancake breakfast at Spencer UAME Church, a Mary Leona Gaynor Ireland slide talk, and hoagie sale by Nether Providence PTO. The Holmes Fire Co auxiliary installed officers for 1978, and dog owners are warned to leash pets as borough authorities boost enforcement.

Ogden Fire Co. elects officers at annual banquet

At the Feb 11 Ogden Fire Co banquet new officers were named with Robert Shomo as fire company president and Mrs. Alice Azsuidlo as auxiliary president. Grace Lecey received the Carrie Holland Award for 1977 auxiliary work while George Holland and Harry Earnshaw earned the William Feist Award for 1977 firemen.

600 swing at Times jazz festival at Widener College

Delaware Valley High School Jazz Festival drew over 600 attendees at Widener College MacMorland Center. Archbishop Carroll Sun Valley Haverford and Chester ensembles performed under jurors Joe Henderson Neuman Baker and Larry McKenna with feedback on tape to aid future growth.
