The EPA proposes reducing lead in gasoline starting 1974 with unleaded options at major stations by mid 1974. Lead content would drop from 2.5 g to 2 g then to 1.7 in 1975, 1.5 in 1976, and 1.25 in 1977, with fines up to 10000 per day for violators.
Prime Minister Edward Heath's government backed higher weekly benefits for injured workers as the Common Market bill faced House scrutiny. The plan would raise the maximum weekly compensation from about 60 to 94 dollars, with more than 50 000 workers injured each year set to gain.
