Blind WWI veteran dies after jail isolation

Wilmer A. Summerville, 73, a blind World War I veteran, died in a private nursing home after 46 days in Floyd County Jail when he could not access government or private care. Sheriff Joe Adams aided him. Christine Perry of a Cedartown nursing home offered free care. He passed from a heart attack, with locals sending support and a Valentine from East Rome High School. Funeral set for 4 p.m. near Rome.

Five Die in Bethlehem House Fire Near Steel City

Five people, including three children Edward 13 Gwendolyn 4 and Kathy 3, and Charles Fackelman 61 and his wife, were killed when a Bethlehem Steel area home burned after about 6 am.
