Palazzo jury cannot reach verdict in Fontaine arrest case

A Dauphin County jury failed to reach a verdict in the case of Joseph A. Palazzo Chester Township supervisor and county employee charged with obstructing law and tampering with witnesses over the July 1976 arrest of Herman Fontaine. The three day trial heard testimony that Palazzo allegedly directed officers to drop charges, while defense argued the arrest was mishandled and police overstepped. Jurors will not be immediately retried as the decision rests with the district attorney.

Brothers jailed for death of Steven Ambrose in Glenolden

Two Glenolden brothers Christopher Gore and William Gore, aged 16 and 18, received 7 to 20 year prison terms after pleading guilty to third degree murder in the beating death of Steven Ambrose after a graduation party. Ambrose's battered body was found near Railroad Avenue.

Snow covered horse dies amid park winter housing dispute

In Ridley Creek State Park a snow bound horse died after being kept outside in winter pasture. The horse belonged to Denver Chipps, whose stable was under dispute with residents and state park officials over shelter and care. Chipps moved horses to a barn area but left them without shelter during the blizzard, and one animal grew ill from suspected colic despite calls to a veterinarian.

Rape Attempt Thwarted On Mall Parking Lot

State police report an attempted rape of a 15-year-old girl in Granite Run Mall parking lot Friday night. A man in a van picked her up about 10:30 p.m. at Media, took her to the mall and tried to assault her in the vehicle, but the plan failed when she became ill. He returned her to Media and dropped her off on Baltimore Pike before she walked home and contacted police. WAR assisted.

Blue Route study delayed again as EIS awaits final action

The Blue Route or Midcounty Parkway study stalls in Harrisburg due to internal PennDOT issues. The completed environmental impact statement may be sent to Washington next week with options to proceed, revise, or halt the project. Cost to date exceeds $1 million over nearly four years.
