Washington AP reports the Pay Board adopted a rule tightening oversight of postponed pay raises. Increases above 7 percent face potential rejection, while pre November 14 contracts must provide 30 days notice for raises over 7 percent per year for units over 1,000 workers. New contracts stay under a 5.5 percent guideline. some small contracts escape reporting. Construction unions remain under the Stabilization Committee.

Fire Board probes Afro hair policy for city firefighters

Honest coworker returns $50,000 lottery prize
Leol Scaduto, a Brooklyn resident and New York City worker, routinely handed Nancy Colacchio a dollar weekly for two New Jersey lottery tickets. After Scaduto’s death in Wisconsin, Colacchio found one winning ticket and notified his widow. The $50,000 prize was claimed by Mrs. Scaduto with credit to Colacchio’s honesty.
