Villanova coed to carry Pennsylvania torch in relay run
Maureen Sullivan a 19 year old Villanova University runner from Morris Plains New Jersey will represent Pennsylvania in the nine day Olympic Torch relay from Langley Air Force Base Virginia to Lake Placid New York. She is one of 52 chosen from more than 6000 applicants and will carry the torch for about 80 miles of the 1000 mile route. Her acceptance comes after an interview and four mile run in Washington, DC. She expects to lead thousands of joggers along Market Street Philadelphia City Hall and the Parkway to the Art Museum steps.

Unemployment climbs to 6.2 percent in January
Washington reports the nations unemployment rate jumped to 6.2 percent in January the highest since mid 1978. Unemployed persons rose by 340000 to 64 million with most losses among adult males. Officials forecast a mild recession likely in early 1980 with a year end rate near 7.5 percent.
