Court upholds new Pennsylvania redistricting plan
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled the state legislative redistricting plan by the State Commission legal in a 43 vote. It upholds a map for 203 House districts and 50 Senate districts based on 1980 census data, expanding suburban and rural districts while preserving constitutional compliance. The decision ends challenges by Common Cause and others who argued the plan split municipalities and wards.

Redistricting Plan Shrinks County Seats Under One Person Principle
The plan aims for population equality in districts with the ideal Senate district at 237,334 and House seat at 58,456. Marple and Ridley townships contested the changes, facing division across districts, while Rep. John Alden of Radnor risks losing a compact Radnor Marple district. The 167th District would span five Chester County townships, raising questions about Delaware County’s representation and potential succession to a Chester County resident. Incumbents are largely deemed safe with no major party gains anticipated.
