Colder-Than-Record Christmas Across the Nation
A severe Arctic chill blanketed the country on Christmas Day from Wyoming to Maine. In Delaware County a transformer explosion cut power to 1500 people in a Chester housing project. Traffic lights froze, water lines burst, and authorities housed the homeless in police stations. The cold wave caused 142 deaths and millions in citrus crop damage.
